I recently got a 1907 M96 Swedish Mauser. I can't seem to sight the target as well as with my Mosin. The mosin has a circular tube with a pin on the front sight. I seem to canter the swede sometimes and my accuracy is way off. A friend filed the rear sight so that a little light is on each side of the front tab when sighting. If anyone has any suggestions please respond. I want to use the sweded in my matches. I really believe that it's more accurate than the mosin. Please help with any comments.

Well from a collectors stand point, filing the rear sight is a no-no. If you need a decent sight, check out Mojo sights. Front and rear apeture for 74 bucks.

I was told that we "cannot" use another sight at least for our matches at the OKC Gun Club.

Try sight black or smoke from a lighter It might help a little.

Judge, have you replaced the front blade w/ a +3.50 yet. If you front base, and blade are both marked "0" it would be difficult to sight in at 100 yards. Sarco has =3.50 high front sight blades, in stock for $13.95. They als have original slings and stripper clips. I purchased all 3 for about 32.00+ a few weeks ago
( including shipping). All are in very nice condition. http://www.sarcoinc.com/
The new front blade is easier to see, and is correct for the rifle. JP

JP, the front sight now is about 3/8" tall and the rear sight has a dial and a little screw very, very fine adjustment. My issue is that I'm probably going to have to work hard to keep the gun in perfect upright alignment. I tend to cock the gun sideways somewhat and it was affecting my ability to score well. My Mosin seems easier to keep upright (perpendicular to the bench) because of the ring on the front sight. I just need to practice with the Swede I think. It's just going to take time I think.

With iron sights, the front sight is supposed to be sharply in focus, while the rear sight and target are somewhat fuzzy. Even so, try to level the rear sight so that the top of the sight is horizontally straight with the target. Get accustomed to how this feels (probably will make you straighten the rifle butt against your shoulder) and then make an effort to always do this when sighting.
I too, have a tendency to cant the rifle. A scope really shows this, so I've learned to get that different feel of the butt against the shoulder cup.
