Several years back I was in a gun shop, noticed a Sav99 in 375 wcf with a clip (?). It looked like someone had done a good job of putting it together,$349 cdn and home to the range.Works and shoots great, functions like it should and is put in closet and wondered about as I look for an original 99/375.
A few more 99's and Murray's book are added and then yesterday at a show I buy a 99f/243 and have to pull and mix all the Savage's so momma don't count it.While I'm wipeing the 375 I notice some things I hadn't b4,thnks largely to this new to me tech-age and Violator22's site.
Went back to the show 2day to check the 10-12 Savage's again to see what was different. All had Model 99 stamped on reciever boss and All had assembly stamp on lever pivot boss.
Mine only has serial #D9824xx on left side of clip well,no other markings/stamps on rec at all/anywhere..

Barrel is marked:

Westfield,Mass Model 99A Series A 375Win 22"

gold bead F/S Williams rear barrel sight

finger groove/chkrd bottom forend

P/G MCarlo butt white line solid rbr pad

tang safety,blued trgr,plain bolt,swivels

D/T'd for scope,side of rec'v for rec'v sight

7.12oz-- heavyst Sav. I hav.

Anybody hav any ideas??I know that in 1981,Model99 was mrked in barrel address but thought they also mrked reciever as you or I would recognize it but what about BATF or in my case CFC???
Take a guess..did somebody go to a lot of trouble or was this a trial gun of sorts??
Tech age hasn't caught up to me yet so can't do pictures for now.
thanks,Bob

Hello Bob,

Mine is a solid frame, and I was honestly of the impression that all 99As were. Not that there were many 375s made, I am told 500 from one source, and 1500 from another one.

The barrel of mine is marked as yours, as is the receiver with the serial number, starting with a D.

Its a really nice gun, but I only fool with it now and again, and not as much as I should. I'd like to get serious and work out up a real duty load around the 255 Barnes.

Best to you Bob, good shooting.

Steve

Hey Bob, can you send me some pictures of this rifle, have been away for awhile. I am pretty sure that none of the 99 C or CD's were made in 375, I am thinking someone may have made one, strong possibility. The later models didn't have an assembly stamp on the lever boss, i know none of mine do. But wow, nice catch on the caliber, should be a sweet Black bear and white-tail rifle. The C should have 24" barrel on it. same as the CD, what it sounds like is that someone took a 99 A barrel and put it on a CD frame, my honest opinion is that if you like it, keep it, as long as the serial number is on it, CF nor the BATF should have any problems, by the way that reciever left the factory June of 1982, I know they didn't release any in that date in 375. Don't have my Murrayson me, so I can't remeber if the CD was still produced then. Good shooting. Les P.S. my email is leslie.l.green@savagela.org
