Trying to buy one of the new Uberti 1885 Winchester HiWall copies, with pistolgrip and double set triggers, in 30-40 Krag. Buffalo Arms doesn't have them yet, not even a computer printout arrival date and will check further with Cimarron and Uberti - anyone heard anything?

I'd always figured a scoped Ruger #3 in 30-40 for me would be a perfect 100-150 yard deer/coyote rifle for sitting up on the ridge at my new house, instead of my peepsighted bigbore levers I carry when pounding through the puckerbrush. I've got a couple Browning 1885s and like them better than than Ruger singleshots, but have always loved Win HiWalls, and from what I've been reading of late, the Ubertis are a pretty good copy of the original John M. Browning design - and now, w/dbl set triggers and pistolgrip!!!!

The only issue now is a scope, as I really don't want/need one of those long 3/4" tube copies but want a relatively new 3-9 variable w/1" tube. I'm guessing it'll be a drill and tap proposition, but what's out there for bases for original style HiWalls?

Thanks, Joe

P.S. - Just called Cimarron, looks like I'll get one ordered, and wait! Could probably get a C.Sharps HiWall faster (believe it or not) but Sharps doesn't offer those double set triggers!

I have scoped both a Uberti High Wall and Low Wall. I put an old 3/4" Litschert on the High wall - drilled and tapped for the old style Unertl mounts. For the low wall I drilled and tapped and put on a weaver base to use with modern 1" scopes. Any flat weaver base will do I guess. I bought a blank flat weaver base and modified it so it tapered down to match the top flat of the octagon and then relieved it so it cantelevered over the action so I could get the scope back farther. Both work fine. I hate to say it, but you might be in for a long wait when ordering Ubertis. My shooting buddy has had a double set trigger low wall on order for over 2 years. I have had a High wall tang sight on order for 2 and a half years. Uberti lists a ton of rifle and cartridge combinations but I think they only make very few of what they list. Straight grip 45/70's you can get anytime. Everything else is hit or miss. I have a 30-40 Krag pistol grip single trigger and a 22 hornet low wall. I just kept calling Cimarron every couple months asking what they had. They never seem to have any idea when and what calber High walls and low walls they will get. I have been told about 15 times that my sight would be in in a "couple of months". Pretty nice rifles though.

That is identical to what I ordered last fall..........waiting
I called Cimerron a couple of mothes ago: " Yes indeed, they are in the pipeline".
Yea, right.
Anyhow, decided I do not want one.
Uberti's "case hardening" looks so faded/washed out I'd druther a blued one.
I'm now looking for an orginal/custom one.
