Trying to buy one of the new Uberti 1885 Winchester HiWall copies, with pistolgrip and double set triggers, in 30-40 Krag. Buffalo Arms doesn't have them yet, not even a computer printout arrival date and will check further with Cimarron and Uberti - anyone heard anything?
I'd always figured a scoped Ruger #3 in 30-40 for me would be a perfect 100-150 yard deer/coyote rifle for sitting up on the ridge at my new house, instead of my peepsighted bigbore levers I carry when pounding through the puckerbrush. I've got a couple Browning 1885s and like them better than than Ruger singleshots, but have always loved Win HiWalls, and from what I've been reading of late, the Ubertis are a pretty good copy of the original John M. Browning design - and now, w/dbl set triggers and pistolgrip!!!!
The only issue now is a scope, as I really don't want/need one of those long 3/4" tube copies but want a relatively new 3-9 variable w/1" tube. I'm guessing it'll be a drill and tap proposition, but what's out there for bases for original style HiWalls?
Thanks, Joe
P.S. - Just called Cimarron, looks like I'll get one ordered, and wait! Could probably get a C.Sharps HiWall faster (believe it or not) but Sharps doesn't offer those double set triggers!
