Would the lead from auto or truck battery's be good to melt and use to make bullets ? Would it be safe to take the lead out of the battery's ?

Would the lead from auto or truck battery's be good to melt and use to make bullets ? Would it be safe to take the lead out of the battery's ? that is not a good idea (1) when you melt it you will be exposed to all kinds of nasty thinge that can hurt or even kill you (2) you do not have a place to safely get rid of the chemicale inside the battery and to just dump it out on the groung you will do more harm to the enviroment them you know (3) wheel weights you can get most any where or if you can't get them pm me and I will sell you some ingots made out of wheel weights (4) most any scrap yard will sell you lead to (5) and the most important reason you stand to take a chance on doing harm to your gun with bullets made from a battery so if I were you I would not use them Forest Punch

that is not a good idea . . .Ditto that and might add that few auto/truck batteries have pure lead plates in them anymore. Most are alloys that, when melted, give off fumes which can adversely affect your sex life. :p

The batterls for the last couple of decades have some other metals alloyed with the lead, thngs best left unmelted.

But the time a battery is "dead" the plates are so oxidized that there isn't nearly as much lead as the weight would indicate...and the dross that floats up should be ttreated with the same respect you'd treat any poision.

Prefer you don't...but if you absoulutly must, do it outdoors, with a strong wind at your back, and burry the dross someplace where no one is likely to dig it up.

I believe it was the Lyman Cast Bullet manual where I read about this...

The acid permeates the lead and is nearly impossible to remove, even by melting. So, you'll make corrosive bullets.

Also, battery lead is alloyed with calcium which is good electrically, but is a contaminant that makes the lead cast very poorly. It's not removed by melting.

Thank guys , I can scratch batt. as a source lead.

Not totally a scratch.... plates are completely useless, don't even waste your time with them. If you have the proper acid protective equipment; eyes, full face, gloves, skin, ect... You can salvage the terminals. But, in all honesty, it does not pay to mess with them unless they are the large ones where you at least get some lead out of them, standard size terms are a waste of time & effort.

Marshall Kane noted that the fumes from battery acid can effect you sex life. This is particularly true if those same fumes KILL YOR ARSE!!
