I bought a Howa 1500 in 6.5x55.My problem is this,my son
who came home from Idaho.Decided to check out the gun on the day he was heading back. The next thing I knew,I get a call from him mentioning he's on his way back and loves the
Howa.So I'm out of a gun.I checked all over town for another Howa, but no luck, also could'nt find a Ruger or Winchester in that caliber. So I was wondering,What caliber is closest to a 6.5x55?Ammo must be cheap too. :(

Try the .260 Remington, It's almost a ballistic duplicate of the 6,5 X 55.

Heck - go buy a Swede Mod 38 or 96 surplus rifle and enjoy yourself. Got a bunch in two vaults and still don't have enough! :D

buy a cheap stevens or savage and rebarrel it, it is easy enough to do, all you need is a barrel nut wrench, headspace gauge and action vise

How about the .260 Remington? Caliber wise it is the next level up and shoots a 100 feet or more per second faster. It is a little more power but uses the same bullet diameter. It is an excellent long range shooter too. Just a thought OK.

Why don't you just get the same caliber in another rifle.
Tikka, Howa, CZ, - there are many manufacturers.
Sounds like you might not be satisfied with anything less-
I bought one of the last Model 70's in 6.5x55. I may not even shoot it. Just bought it to save.
No, you can't have it!
Good Luck
TPV........I bought a model 70 from Winchester in the .260 Remington and am happy as a meadow lark in spring! :D

I have a Remington Classic in 6.5x55. It's probably the best huting rifle I own, very accurate indeed. Unfortunately it was made by Remington for only a single year which is typical of the Classic model. Of course other manufacturers produce the caliber. Most are with a 1 in 8" twist which is preferrable to my 1 in 9". Most are not only accurate but mild in the recoil department. I would recommend Sako and Tikka as choice makers in this caliber. Best wishes.

I think Ruger and Winchester both produce models in 6.5x55, but I doubt they are equal to the CZ, Tikka, or Sako.
Europeans have about 100 years of manufacturing this caliber, and probably do a better job of it. Just one mans opinion. Best wishes.
