you know, a good rule of thumb is to spend the same amount or more on optics as you do on the gun. Swarovski maybe?
:D
nice gun BTW

I can envision a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40 (http://www.riflescopes.com/products/LEU55042/leupold_3.5-10x40_vx-iii_riflescope.htm) on that guy
boy it sure is fun to spend somebody else's money :D

Have you thought about a 4-12?? It might be the better power for that caliber. What do you plan to hunt with this gun? I guess I am trying to figure out what the farthest distance is you will be using it. 18 power may be a little much. Just depends.

Ive been looking at the 4-12 , Main target now will be deer and maybe later work up to bigger game. range not sure depends on where i go.
midway is being a pain tonight , everyone once in awhille it dont work for me ill check the link later
i know the 4-12 on the 7mm i can read a target at 100yrds , the wrighting on it. so it would do the job good on the 270

I might be beating a dead horse here but, you might want to try the Swift 676AO in 4-12X
Also has lifetime warranty, costs about $139.00 at the address below:
I now have three of them, with no complaints-

Good Luck

I put a Cabela's Alaskan Guide 4-14x50 on my 300 RUM. It seems to be holding up well so far. It's as clear as scopes for 3X the price.
I would opt for the LEUPOLD! A power in the 2 X 7 will cover all the bases for hunting big game animals. Anything more, especially in warm weather will cause heat waves off the barrel, that will distort your viewing of said game animal.

I love my 270 Weatherby Magnum. It started with a Leupold VariX III but now has a Ziess 3x9. I prefer the Ziess. It it easier to adjust the ocular lens to my aging eyes. Also don't forget the new Ziess America scopes. I have 2 of them and they are comparable to my European Ziess for my eyes. I think you can find one for $450-499, about the price of a Leupold. Anyway, when the eyes get older the european fast adjusting eyepiece is nice.

riflescopes.com (http://www.riflescopes.com/departments/86/rifle_scopes/leupold_hunting_riflescopes/leupold_vx-ii_riflescopes.htm?sb=&so=&page=4) I think has some of the best choices as far as reticles you want along with great prices. ALSO with the Leupolds I believe you can get your rings and mounts free which is always nice.
***edti**** Though I just checked and I am not sure you can get mounts for a LH Mk V :(
