Would like to hear from folks who have put Herco thru a .44 mag. And what Herco recipe you like? They will be going thru a S&W 629 8 3/8 bbl. I already bought 1000 240gr Berry's plated HP.

Herco isn't ideal in the .44m tho I tried it many years ago with marginal sucess. According to the "Lyman 45th edition" a starting load of 10 gr should produce almost 1000 fps, and a max 13 gr gives over 1100 fps. That's with a 245 gr. lead boolit. Chief

Herco is between Unique & HS-6. I've used both of these to make .44 mag at .44 Spcl loadings for indoor target use. Both work fine, but Unique is so much cleaner than HS-6. So, I'd expect Herco to work OK at that level, too.

I tried Herco, but it just didn't work real good. It was dirty burning, smoky and left tons of crap in my guns. I used a 11.6 grain charge under a 240 grain lead bullet.
