I think this new cartridge is pretty interesting. The FA Model 83 is certainly a lot more "packable" than the X-frame IMHO yet has 85% of the energy of the big S&W. Wish I had one but alas, the "shooting account" isn't up to it at the moment!
Anyone have one of these beauties who'd like to give us a report?
Dennis
BTW, there are a couple good articles on the .500 WE over at gunblast.com if you're interested....

Nope.... but I do have a Magnum Research in .500 JRH, a cartridge actually designed for the FA 83.
Might consider it, if you can't afford the FA. Not quite the same as a FA, but my buffalo is still dead, regardless ....
:D
See pinned thread in the General topic about foot-pounds of energy....

FA spent a year or two designing the .500 WE for the Model 83, so they could keep a smaller rim size and headspace on the belt instead of the mouth (inferior crimp) or rim (too big). I've never heard of the JRH, where did the info that it was designed for the FA 83 come from?
Curious, not cantankerous,
Dennis

From the guy who designed it... Jack Huntington.
The .500 JRH has a VERY small rim, but it's enough.
There is information on the Buffalo Bore website about the .500 JRH, and Jack's web site, as well.

VERY interesting, thanks Mike!
I may need to drive down to Grass Valley for a chat concerning a conversion (or two!) ;-)
Best,
