I just bought the remington 710 and got the scope sighted. It worked wonderfully, no problems I can think of. When I was cleaning it though I accidently dropped the bolt and I think it "jumped" into the cocked position. I am quite new to rifles and shooting them not to mention maintenance.

I've tried "forcing" the locking lugs back to the uncocked position but no success. I didn't really FORCE it, I just applied some pressure to see if I could move it back. I've also tried reading the manual to learn how to dissassemble the bolt but that didn't work as all I have to work with are my two hands and some screw drivers. Any help you could provide is appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

If you go to Remingtons home page, you can ask your question on their support tab. I am not familiar w/ the problem you discribe. It does sound like you have rotated the bolt face. Sorry not to be much help. JP

You don't want to try to make the lugs move. You want to open the bolt handle. Just imagine the bolt was in the gun and closed. You have to get the bolt in a vise, padded, then move the bolt handle up like you would be opening it. You should be good to go.

Just looked and see I was thinking of a 700/722 action. The 710 is different so dissregard what I said earlier. Looks like you need to get some sort of rearward pressure on the back of the bolt to get the lugs to turn. The spring is very heavy and probably can't be done by hand. If you have a vice try putting the section to the rear of the bolt handle in the vise to hold it. Be sure this is padded. Try pulling the rear section out, then turning the bolt.

Sorry for the mix up.

Thank you both.

We'll see how this turns out.

I'd send Remington an email to their website. If they don't help you stop by a gunsmiths and let him do it. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two. Best wishes.
