I was recently in the market for a .223 rifle, preferably a single shot for varmint hunting. I'm a fan of the Ruger No. 1's (I currently own three) but I wanted something a little more rugged, whereas I wouldn't be afraid of scratching it.

I almost bought the NEF Handi-rifle (own a few of those, too). While at my local shop, I noticed he had a handful of the Baikel Russian combo guns. In fact he had one in 12 gauge over .223 Rem. Comes with scope base, walnut stock, daul triggers and it breaks down for easy storage. So I bought it (yeah, I know, I'm a pushover). I have an older Burris 2-7x that I'll mount.

Anyone else own or shoot one of these guns? What can I expect for accuracy? I intend to use it for varmint hunting. Longest shot I'd have room for is 200 yards max. This local shop has sold the Russian line for a few years now and tells me he doesn't see many getting traded off or returned for work.

Thanks!!
