Hi all, I've been reloading for .45acp for years and never had any issues with my reloads. A week ago I rolled some Precision 230 gr Moly coated lead bullets (Black Bullets) and experienced my first ever almost a Kaboom!
Loaded mag, racked slide and pulled trigger got a boom but cartridge got jammed up and wouldn't eject. I dropped the mag, cleared the firearm, reloaded mag, racked slide and jam o matic....
Dropped the mag cleared the jam and set the firearm aside as I didn't wish to waste valuable range time
Went on my merry way shooting my AR15, Beretta 92, and .357 GP100...
When I got around to stripping and cleaning my guns when I pulled the 45 apart and started to clean it I noticed why the firearm was jamming...A bullet was jammed not that far into the barrel. I mean jammed!!! All along I thought I had an ejector tension issue and here I see a bullet jammed in the barrel!! I've never had one of these before and it concerns me...I keep my guns very clean so dirt/corrosion/powder residue was not the cause...
Any thoughts?? Maybe an out of spec bullet, it didn't look or feel any different while loading it. Now I am skeptical of using the rest of the 450 rounds I have left... :(

Maybe one that was not crimped properly. I could see a moly coated bullet sliding out of the case and into the throat when it is thrown forward into the chamber and there is no crimp to hold onto it. The bullet may have already been lodged and still barely seated in the case. Still enough to ignite the powder but not enough pressure to send the bullet down the barrel. Just a thought.

The only time I had a similar problem, was during a match, I had loaded some rounds just a hair too long. and they engaged the rifling, one didn't feed properly, (slide didn't close all the way)so gun didn't fire, I racked the slide ejected the empty case, ( thinking it was a weak load, and and just didn't have enough power to work the slide), I fed the next one. The slide failed to completly close ( now I"m getting mad) so I slapped the rear of the slide with my hand, it closed, I fired, Two holes appeared on the target. Thankfully Rugers are built like a tank, no damage to me or my gun. What had caused it was I opend a new box of bullets, same shape, same wieght, same everything, same manufacuture, almost . the new bullets had a slightly different nose, which i didn't notice, so the new bullets seated just a few thousanths longer, enough to reach the rifling.
I think I would try them a second time, with a wood dowel and hammer at hand, go slow and check too see just what is going on. You can't fix a problem till you know what it is. DM
