I know you should always lube cases before full length resizing. I purchased an RCBS die which is a neck sizing die. Should I lube the cases before sizing them? Is this necessary with a neck sizing die? Thanks for any information

Yes,l you must lube the neck for neck sizing. The only dies you don't have to lube the case for are the Lee Collet dies. No lube needed on those. But regular dies, yes.

Very lightly on the neck and none on the shoulder. Also run a brush lightly coated with lube into the neck.

Marshall and Gismo both gave you good advice. I use one of the spray lubes that dries and has no ill effects on the powder charge.

I also take #0000 steelwool and clean outside the case neck before I lube and resize.
(That's due to the fact that I don't tumble my brass anymore.)

I also, as mentioned by another poster, take an old barrel brush, wrap some steelwool around it and scrub the insides of my case necks too.

i think the inside of the case is more important than the outside when neck sizing. I use a Q-tip and run it around the inside of the neck, then wipe it off afterwards. After 40 years of reloading I just hung a case up in my Redding Body Die and had to send it to them to get the case out so you're never too experienced to make a booboo on this. It provided incentive for me to order an RCBS stuck case removal kit. Best wishes.

I've used the Q-tip method myself. I also just picked up some Imperial Dry Neck Lube. I think it's a graphite powder and just stick the necks in and resize. I haven't tried it yet so I can't comment on how it works.

I have found that a case neck brush will leave a little lube on the outside of the case mouth that works just fine for neck sizing. I trim and tumble clean after that.

The Imperial Dry Neck Lube works OK ( I think it's graphite, too). You can also get Mica for the same purpose, which seems to work about as well.

I went with Lee's collet dies for neck sizing. No muss, no fuss. I use RCBS water soluable sizing lube for full lengthh resizing and inside the case neck. I've never had a stuck case with it and it cleans well with hot water. The only drawback is waiting for the brass to dry. If I'm in a hurry I'll just wipe the case off with a rag soaked it rubbing alcohol.

I use Hornady One-Shot spray lube. I like it because you can get the outside and inside of the case much easier that with a brush or Q-tip. I find it to be a very good lube. --Mykal

I also use One Shot. Never have had to clean the inside of the necks. Much easier to use. Like you said can lube inside and outside the neck at the same time.
