I have not ever shot a 325 grn. bullet out of any Smith to date. I am leaning to getting Marshalls .44/325grn./431dia. and using H110 and mag primers. What is the max. velocities and pressures expected within the Smiths capabilites. This of course is going to be shot out of a 629-1 4"bbl.

well before my thread goes into the "files" I may add that after having a friendly chat with Marshall today I got an insight. The Smith will be able to "chamber" and leave some 30 thous. for play. The crimp is crucial on each and every round.
He has a Smith 6" and shoots 21 grn. H110 with a win "spark plug". Accuracies is very good. Mentions it will not beat the Smith up. These are the pointers I have asked for and he was more than willing to help.
So I ordered 2 boxes of .431/325WLN and will check them out on my fine shootin Smith.
You all can offer any suggestions anytime I post a thread-feel free. ;)

I have a mold for a 330gr. flat nosed .430 slug that I bought from NEI in the late '70s that is just a sweety to shoot. I think I pack about 21-22 gr/296 behind it without any pressure signs at all and I can shoot decent groups at 200 yds with a 10" SBH with this load. I don't know what you are going to use a big slug like that for in a 4" Smith but with the H110 it will breathe a lotta fire. I think you will be able to change your name to "dragon". Good luck, Chief

hey chief, below the Brooks Range and in the foothills there is some mighty "big" mosquitos that need a bullet to penetrate or they stick you pretty good. :p I always am of the mind "heavy" slugs will drive thru a bunch of em when they group up.
