...aka: will jb blow himself up by trying this. I was goofing around with some 32 brass and bullets tonight and the idea hit me, why can't I crimp with my FL size die, so I took an extra piece of brass and a bullet, seated the bullet and put it in the full length die and ran it up until it got snug and pulled it back out and i got a lovely crimp, not a roll crimp but I imagine it is something like a taper crimp, I don't thing it is over crimped but I want to check. The load will most likely be 6 grains of HS-6 under a 170gr hard cast

Don't see why it won't work.

I can see the possibility of squeezing the bullet diameter down by doing this.

You did say "until snug". Should be ok.

Don't see why this won't work but also don't see any advantage over using either the taper or roll crimp built into the seater die. I believe the sizer die will have more bearing surface on the cartridge case creating more friction during the crimp AND because it is crimped according to "feel" the crimps will not be nearly as uniform. But hey, if it feels good, do it!

The biggest thing I like about it is, I don't have to fool with the seater plug once I get it set. I don't use the neck expander in the full length die so it is real simple to change, I could always set the die so that it makes the desired amount of contact when the ram is at the top of the stroke

I could always set the die so that it makes the desired amount of contact when the ram is at the top of the strokeYou are essentially taper crimping when you use the sizer die to crimp. With heavy recoiling revolver cartridges, it may not be enough to prevent the cartridges from breaking loose. In any event, a uniform crimp needs uniform case lengths. Too long and the case may buckle, too short and there's not enough crimp. Your suggestion will work under certain conditions. Why not give it a try?

This load is far from heavy recoil. In my experience, most crimps are length sensitive
