All,
For Memorial day the wife and I took a couple of days off and drove to Florida. We had a great time but were tardy about leaving and I have to confess that I did some heavy-weight speeding to try to get us home on time.
We passed through a low bayou section of Florida where the speed limit was posted at 45.
A great big sign on the side of the road said that the speed limit was set low to prevent cars from hitting an endangered species of dwarf pig that lives in the low lands near the Floridia swamps.
Sure enough, I hit one of the pigs while I was going about 80. I knew the dwarf pig was dead from the impact, saw no reason to stop, and just pressed on.
We made it back home just a bit late and were preparing to start our work week Monday morning when a Florida patrol car pulled up in the driveway.
The trooper told me I was under arrest for hitting a protected dwarf pig at a high speed. He cuffed me and put me in the back of the car. I knew I was looking at a big fine and possible jail time.
The patrolman was a decent sort of guy and didn't object when my wife came to the patrol car to kiss me goodbye through the open window and wish me well.
As we were just begining to pull away in the patrol car my wife asked the patrolman how in the world he had managed to track us down and find us.
He stopped the car, looked my wife right in the eyes, and said "the pig squealed".
