I have a Remington Model 8 that I was thinking of running through Gunbroker. It is a pretty rifle but one that just doesn't hold my interest, other than it is a 35 Rem, and it is something I will never hunt with.
It's very clean and well cared for but the fellow that had this gun etched his drivers license number into the metal work near the trigger guard. This seems pretty common, something that gun owners did back in the sixties but I'm sure it takes away from the value. Any idea how much?

My 27th Edition of Blue Book of Gun Values lists the Model #8 in .35 Rem at $650 in 100% condition, $575 in 98%, $475 in 95%, $350 in 90%, $275 in 80%.
I'd judge you're in the 90% or more range.

I am not a collector Ranch Dog. I would think that the best customer would be the man that engraved it.
If you can find him, I would give him first dibbs. After that, it is what it is.

I just sold one in honest "shooter" condition (maybe 60%) a few months ago for $495 (though it took a while)
It's nice that it is in 35 rem which is still available anywhere(though 25 rem is far rarer)

He's dead.
Well now! That should make him easier to find. A little tougher to sell to though. Perhaps next of kin would be interested.
My Gun Traders Guide does not have the model 8. I would keep in my mind the fact that you can't buy a new one when selling.
