View Full Version : Lack Of Cats Increase In Rabbits
i've noticed in the last couple of years since the stray cat population is cut back here that the rabbits are thick in town...i saw on the insomniac show a couple of years ago where was in new orleans and they were shooting the nutrias there...... looked like a ball... with all the rabbits here you'd think the folks with gardens would be wanting these things thined out... looks like a good job for a scoped rifle and some .22 shorts to me..... anyone else?

"They" were the Jefferson Parish Sherrif's Office (JPSO) and they only shot them late at night (early AM) wnad used either .22RF's or suppressed weapons. Swat got to try out some of their nigh scopes and suppresed toys, but usually it was just a .22LR and sub-sonics.
Nutria have the bad habit of sinking in the canal or bayou,,,,and having the bolated body pop up later usually ticks off the homeowners. So you try to nail them on the banks, or you'll have to try to hook onto the sinkers and drag them out.
Of cousre Katrina changed all that.
Now you can contend with hungry feral dog packs in the depopulated, devestated areas...felons and crack heads hiding out in the shells of destroyed buildings....a few thousand mentally ill squatting in the devistated areas (no available medical care)...rats you would not believe...a few urban/sunurban alaigators...and lots and lots of snakes.
Sounds like a lovely place to take a vacation, rs!

Except for the homeless, hiding criminals, mental patients, looters, and various odd folks. Had a guy come into the ER...nutty as can be...who had cut the bottom out of an ashtray, jammed it onto his arm like an arm band, and let his skin kind of grow over it....ended up taking off that arm.
(This ER is one of the few open..and we're 13 miles outisde the N.O. city limits).
Mean while, it's pretty much every man for himself after night fall in some areas...and are enough "normals" either trying to rebuild of having no place else to go, that letting loose a shot is likely to earn you return fire from several directions at once.
I'll pass.

Ribbonstone, hello there. I went to Nawlins in Feb. looking for work in the Katrina cleanup. That was a Joke. Heavy equipment operators getting paid 8-12 dollars an hour. Nothing much was getting done except the blue roofs were being replaced quick.
I went out at night alot down in the garden district, I thought the place was pretty descent down there, people were alot more friendly there than here. everyone I met nodded their head, or said hello. I would stop a total stranger and ask directions and get into a good long conversation most the time. Just differant experiences I guess?

Eight to twelve dollars an hour, EGADS! What're they gonna do with all that extra money?
