I have a mini-14 that is basically new, less than 500 rounds through it if even that. Yesterday I was shooting JSC ammo from Russia and some other chinese made ammo when the firing pin broke. Does anyone know if this ammo could have caused the problem? It is a quality gun so I think that it might be the ammo's fault.

Ruger specifically states that the guns aren't warranteed to function with com-block ammo. The primers are harder than US and mil-spec ammo, and this is a common occurrence.\

From Ruger, firing pins are a factory fitted item only. They are available through gunparts.com, I just looked yesterday, but the ideal solution would be a titanium firing pin, the likes of which I have yet to locate a source.

Too bad about your Mini 14. They just don't like commie ammo.

God bless,

I wonder if a machine shop, given the original to work from, could make a titanium firing pin?
