Does anyone know anything about this gun? From what I can see it is fairly old made from 1906-36. Anyway I see one at a local shop for $230 and was wanting to get it and cast for it. WAs wondering if you think I can use load data that is printed for 35 now adays? It seemed to be in good shape, but I'm no expert on autoloaders. Anything in particular I should look for? Thanks.

The model 8 was the first sporting semi auto offered by Remington. This is a John Browning design. S.T. or Guns and Ammo did a piece on this rifle a couple of months ago. The .35 is the largest bore offered in this model. Good shooters for an early design. Watch for cracks around the wood to metal finish and weak main spring. The price sounds low for a good condition shooter. Hve it checked by a gunsmith before purchase if allowed and before firing. Good luck, Alan.

The model 81 was the improved version and offered in hard hitting 300 Savage cartridge. But it was heavier and less streamlined than the old model 8.

Both are good hunting rifles and still observed in the hands of experienced local hunters in far away places like Saskatchewon and the Yukon. 35 is a keeper!

Ranch Dog has a model 8, if he hasn't sold it already.

I've got a model 81, it's successor. That sounds like a pretty decent price, if it's not too beat up.

.35 Rem has pretty low pressure ceiling, just on account of these ancient guns.... you could always just load up enough to function the rifle, and quit.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.
