That Nosler is standardizing the 280 Ackley Improved under SAAMI and will be offering their custom rifle and loaded ammunition for it later this summer or early fall. My understanding is they won't handicap the AI with a lower pressure rating than the 270 Winchester the way Remington did with the 280.

I don't know if they will leave the moniker or if they will keep the 40 degree shoulder angle (I suspect so).

That would be cool... I've desired owning a .280 in a Ruger 77 or Rem 700 recently... Might be worth getting if the brass becomes more plentiful. .280 brass is easy enough to find though....

Interesting that everyone wants a .280 Ackley Improved, especially since P.O. himself said that of all his line of improved cartridges improving the .280 was a waste of time from a performance standpoint!

The reason the .280 had a lower MAP in the first place was so Remington could use it in the 740/760 series of rifles that are not so strong as a bolt gun. They wanted just a little greater safety margin.

The .280 AI is basically a 7mm Rem Mag without a belt, which would make it very attractive for a lot of shooters. Without the big belt, the magazine capacity will increase by one round. AI 40 deg shoulder and less tapered case will increase case longivity.

If I didn't already have a 7RM and 7 Dakota, I'd be in line for this chambering.

Kdub....I don't see that line of rifle coming out with a 26 inch barrel and that said, it would lag behind the 7mm mag with a belt velocity wise don't you think?

Besides I never had to much against a belted cartridge or belts in general, helps keep my pants up these days. :D

My factory Ruger M77R 7RM has the 24" bbl, as does most factory jobs. I'd hope the .280 AI would be the same.

Yes, the belt does have some advantages if you handload. By neck sizing only, you can get the case to headspace on the shoulder. That, and the belt at the base helps assure more positive centerline alignment of the cartridge with the bore.

Some folks just feel handicapped by the magazine reduction. Never really bothered me, as I always felt anything over 2 shots downrange was in frustration, anyway.

Now if only I didn't have to sell a kidney to be able to buy an Nosler rifle...
This would be the link for the new 2006 nosler rifle http://www.nosler.com/index.php?p=3&bullet=14
The Model 48 (less expensive) rifle will be chambered in 270 WSM this year.
