I just got this rifle, one of the earlier ones with the 18.5 inch barrel. I will be carrying it in the farm tractor cab in a short case, scoped, for coyotes I often see. Less than 200 yds, of course. Any experience with loads, either factory or handloads, which might work the best in this short barreled Model Seven? I have absolutely no experience with the cartridge. Could handload, but might prefer factory loads.
Thanks, DFM

All firearms develop best results with a particular load or brand of ammo - each is different.

For starters, probably can't go too far wrong in trying out some factory 55 gr spitzers, then try a box or two of lighter and heavier bullets just to see which performs best. At less than 200 yds, would suppose most .223 fodder will be minute-of-coyote.

I have had outstanding service in my older Model-7...and all of my other .223's with the Accutip-Load:

- I am also currently working with some of Hornady's .223-Loads...They have proven very accurate, and consistent under various formats between ranges of 50-250yds, in both my M4, and CZ rifles. However...I have not shot enough living, or test-media to come to a final conclusion regarding terminal-performance. I will be spread-loading two different Hornady/.223-Loads between of few members of my Predator-Hunting-Club this year, and hopefully we will see some dramatic results on cat's-n-coyotes in the high-desert. I am both anticipating, and expecting excellent-effects if Hornady's .223-Loads are as proficient as their Big-Game-Cartridges that I have experience with.

Thanks guys, you have given me some good ideas on loads. I will spend some time at my range (in my backyard here on the farm) when I get the trigger adjusted (see recent post) and a scope mounted.
