New-to-me Rem. 700 ADL '06, Ser. # E6826XXX.
Can someone give me year of manufacture or point me to an appropriate resource?
Thanks.

from my 25th anniv. ed. blue book of gun values and in the section of Rems. the letter code E denotes the year as 1984 and then uses the same letter code back in 1958-hope this helps.

Perfect! Thanks, grizz.
It has rear sight like the current ADLs. The stock finish appears to be the same as on my 700 Classic 35 Whelen which was made only in 1984 IIRC.
So the 1984 date you found matches up with what I see.
Thanks again.

The letter in the serial number is not a date code on Remingtons. There is a two or three letter code stamped on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver which is the month and year. Look for that and post it and I'll let you know when it was built. The first letter is the month, and the second, or second & third together are the year.

Oops, it doesn't work like the Marlin codes, eh?
What does "PP 23" tell you?

I looked up what you gave, and it says that it was manufactured in June of 1923, or 1967. I don't know why two different years for the same letter code.
You can look them up at Armscollectors.com. Just select the make, in your cased Remington, then it asks for the two or three letter date code.

Thanks, gizmo. Those dates don't fit in with the stock finish and type of rear sight, but what do I know? That's why I posted the question in the first place.
PS -- gizmo, that site only goes up to 1972 for Rem. manuf. dates. I pretty sure this rifle is more recent. But thanks for the site. I have bookmarked it and am sure it will be useful in the future.

I just looked in my book and the year code has been reused. That gun was only made from 62-93. I am guessing that it is the June 1967 date.

If all else fails, call Remington's 800 number.
