I know you can hunt then in Botswana , Zambia and Tanzania.
But what other options are there ? I believe in the past I read somewhere that they can be hunted in Cameroon and C.A.R.
Any info or stories are appreciated :D

I believe the CAR and Cameroon variety are known as "Forest Sitatunga". Probably classified the same scientifically and in the "book" categories, but most folks seem to try to make that type of distinction. I understand the DRC, Sudan and maybe Uganda might have huntable populations, if it would be allowed.

I'd love to give it a go one of these days.

Seems like Ethiopia might have some prime habitat for them, but haven't seen any Ethiopian outfitters offering Sitatunga.

I've never been to Africa hunting but would like to go once . Not to intrested in Lion and Leoperd. And not bothered about buff , but I would shoot one if the oppurtunity presented itself.
However I would like a Bushbuck , maybe a Kudu and most of all the Sitatunga . Most people I know that have been to Africa think its odd that I would want the Sitatunga above the rest . I read an article in Peterson's Hunting 20 years ago . It was written by Brian Hearne . He was a PH in Uganda when you could still hunt there . Anyway the whole article was about hunting Sitatunga's . I've since come to find out that Brian also wrote a book called "Uganda Safaries" about his years as a PH in Uganda . Think I might have to find a copy.
I also remember reading in Gun World back in the 70's when Elgin Gates was still alive about him hunting Sitatunga .Also seem to remember an article in Petersons by Craig Boddington about going to Botswana after Sitatunga and Lechwe.
Anyway these guys have intrested me for quite some time .

If hunting Sitatunga is anything like the way I hunted Nyala, which I've read it is, it has to be some great fun. I think Boddington's hunts were from trees and dugout canoe on the Okavango, weren't they? Can't say that is my style of hunting, but it would be different.

All of the spiral horn antelopes are beautiful animals and worthy of the time, effort and money it takes to hunt them. I'd love to hunt the three I took last year all over again.

Here's the Nyalal I took in Zim in the densest thicket imaginable along some unnamed sand river.

Congrats , nice Nyala :D

After doing a search and checking some of the outfitters in Africa for Sitatunga , looks like it will cost about $14,000 . Thats everything included air , gratuites, etc .
Most of the PH's are gonna cost from $8500 -10,000.

None of those countries were Sitatunga call home are cheap for the hunter, that's for sure. Zambia is probably the most economical. For a first time, comparably economical hunt, you could book a hunt in Zimbabwe for Nyala and Plainsgame. Of the spiral horns, you could hunt Commno Nyala, Livingston's Eland, Southern Greater Kudu and either Chobe or Limpopo Bushbuck (depending on the area of your hunt). The cost would be much cheaper for those animals in Zim than any other country except RSA, and in Zim you can choose hunt conservancies, concession areas, communal (campfire) areas or ranches. In RSA you are limited to ranches.

I've never been to Africa hunting but would like to go once

If I were a gambling man, I'd place good folding money that if you go once, you'll have a burning desire to go back. I know I do. Everyone else that I've talked to that has been always plans to go back.

Here's a quote from Dave Petzal that probably rings as true as any:
And so if you meet a hunter who has been to Africa, and he tells you what he has seen and done, watch his eyes as he talks. For they will not see you. They will see sunrises and sunsets such as you cannot imagine, and a land and a way of life that is fast vanishing. And always he will tell you how he plans to go back – David Petzal

Two years ago I took a Limpopo Bush buck,Kudu , Impala

I was looking for a nice Blue Wildabeast but they would not coperate. Things a so slick they smelled us always when I was about to squeeze the trigger.

Thats a Dandy Nyala. Congrats.

Blue Wildebeest...
I never did get a chance at a real "boss" blue, but we did see a lot of them. Their antics really make them, er, well, ah... special. Those things are just absolutely crazy acting! I asked the PH about it and he said they have huge open sinus passages and flies deposit larvae in them. That's the reason they they are shaking their head and tossing it about as they run off. Guess if I had maggots in my nose, I'd act pretty nuts, myself.

They are really neat animals and have beautiful capes.

We found one that had succumbed to the dry season not long before we got to it. No external injury that might suggest poaching, and the blood pooled about was thick. It could not have died but minutes before we discovered it. Seeing its coat up close, they are beautiful. Ugly in the face, but the hide is spectacular.

After reading Chapstick and Alasa338's stories I knew I wanted to go, and every new book/story just feeds the fire..

I now own the guns and glass.. Time to start saving for the airfare and guides..

Thanks for contiuing to feed the fire

best o luck

6pt-sika, my friend and PH in Zim has guided many successful Sitatunga hunts. While I was with him in Zim last month, I watched a number of videos that were made by his clients over the years. You can contact Bob from Outdoor Vision on the following email address - hunters@outdoorvisions.com
He sells the Timbavati Big 5 Hunt Video, which would be a good one for you to start with. There are also 2 Zambia video tapes that used to be sold by Sportsmen On Film, but I'm not sure of their contact details - perhaps you could research it and see. I'm a big fan of the spiral horns myself. So far I've taken 3 Bushbuck and 1 Nyala. I plan on adding to this in the coming weeks when I return to RSA. Currently there are four Sitatunga recognized by SCI: Zambezi, Forest, East African and Sesse Islands. Good hunting, grayghost
