View Full Version : VTDW Issues a Challenge - The Gauntlet Has Slapped Your Face
Ranch Dog's Postal Match separates the men from the boys as far as lever guns goes. So BOYS, some of you post about just how well your lever guns shoot. You post "I shoot sub MOA with xxbullet and xx powder" but we NEVER see the pics at all. I figure some are just blowhards sitting at their monitor and spouting crap!!!
This is a gentleman's match and we participate on our honor. I hereby issue this challenge. For the 100 yd scoped match, I will challenge ANYONE to shoot tighter groups than I do with my .444S. Anyone that sends me an e-mail accepting the challenge I consider to be a man. All others are mere BOYS. $5 per challenge is on the line here!!! It could get expensive but I could clean up also. I figure it is money in my bank.

I need to post the rules:

Being just a little harsh aren't you????????? Just let the groups speak for themselves. No need for name calling. If they can't shoot like they say they can, then so be it. Let it go. I am not in this match, but if I spoke like that in another thread I would get a message from the moderators.

Guess you havn't been around for the past matches. It is all in fun, and VTDW is trying to drum up some shooters, what ever it takes to get the gang out shooting and sending in targets. None of the razzing is ever ment to be mean ;)
heck Gizmo, shoot a target or two, never know what kind of prize you could win.
Has there ever been any girls in the match? That would be downright funny if my wife beat VTDW out of $5.

It wouldn't be that hard to do! As I recall, the first Match had a lady shooter. That was the Match I ran on MarlinTalk. PMII had one youth shooter.
Gismo... Dave is just trying to get the side matches going and getting some shooters. I haven't seen a target in almost two weeks. Good thing my dog isn't around to see this. She would physically pull the mail from my box. Once or twice there was a MilkBone in a target envelop. If we don't get anymore shooters, there won't be a PMV.
LUIS ARE YOU OUT THERE BROTHER! IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SHOOT TARGETS, COULD YOU AT LEAST SEND YOUR COFFEE? :p

Gizmo,
I love ya brother. ;) Enter the match and take my money eh? Or just enter as I promise you will enjoy the challenge and cameraderi. I would hate to send my $$ north. Ewwwwwwww

I understand you now. Just sounded harsh, but trying to get some of them interested in the challenge. I have shot .22 lever gun forever, but am new to the centerfire levergun this year. Still working on how to get it to shoot like I want. No where near good enough to challenge you Dave. Maybe next year.
Gizmo,
Challenge yourself and enter. That is what is is all about my brother. You will get to know your rifle really well and you will be ready for hunting season which is right around the corner from the end of the match.
Come on bro. I promise you will enjoy it. :) Send in your targets and Michael will only publish the best and not the worst. After all there is honor among gentlemen.

I was sitting here drinking from my Marlin mug won in last years contest, thinking I need to tell someone I am drinking from my Marlin mug won in last years contest, and along came this antagonistic unappolijetic hateful thread. I will try to send in as many targets as I can today, and you know I will post the pics here if I do but there is no way I am getting in a side match with "Dead Eye Dan", NO WAY!!!!!
Keep shoot'in boys!
Oh! by the by. My nose is feeling better but my groups are getting larger.

Gismo,
The match is all about getting to shoot your levergun better so that when hunting season rolls around the game don't stand a chance. There are some great prizes, and all you have to do is send in a target. The prizes are random drawing so EVERYONE has an equal chance of winning something good, the only thing the top gets for sure is bragging rights. Shoot em up.

Aw come on VTDW,
I just took the scope off my 336A and reinstalled its receiver sight. Now you issue this challenge. Tell you what. If you get lucky enough to shoot a group smaller than the one I entered before removing my scope, I will owe you $5.00. There is a challenge for you. You can see what you'll have to beat and I won't remount my scope if you get a smaller group.
One thing though, I don't get my Social Security check until the second Wednesday of the month, so please be patient if you should be so fortunate as to actually win. And if I win, please try to pay me by December because extra cash at Christmas time is always welcome!
You want an e-mail too?

I just checked the standings for the Bench Scoped and I am still on top for the 1894s in 44 Mag. Take that.
I did not get to shoot today. Big plans tomorrow.
You know the best we are suppose to get out of the 44 at 100 yds is 4 inchers. When I did not know any better, I would have been happy with that group.

Ain't no way I am gonna lose to some northern feller. ;) Tell ya what I will do with your most generous offer. I will send the $5 you are gonna have to send me to the NRA and match it with an in kind contribution.
Drop me an e-mail so I can give you my address to send the $$. I ain't gettin any younger...the memory you know.

Oh and RD, I just might be sending you as many targest as I can afford to shoot!

Well Dave, seems like you might be in danger of breaking that rule yourself. I seem to remember a weak moment when you got your hands on a purty 444ss :D
Proceed with fear and trembling as I am definitely going to shoot some targets on Saturday.
My challenge has been accepted by a few good men and is now closed. Fling the lead men.
Dave
I didn't make it Saturday but got tuned up for the PM today.

.444's ROCK
I still need to tweak the loads and COL a bit. That last target is 47 gr. H-322
Dave
I'm really kicking myself now for not getting my wife in on this bet. :p
OUCH!!! Never fear, I will be there in the end. These are my first attempts with my full power hunting loads. :p I'll be lucky indeed to gain 5th place again this year from the looks of the standings. I see some fine scores out there to shoot at.

Without a doubt those are nice groups. Makes a guy feel good when they're all in the white, doesn't it? Tell us, how much you stand to lose that you're bearing down so hard?
All I fired today were offhand @ 200 meters using an 1895 45-70 CB & a T/C 30-30. I even hit the swingers a few times! The plan is . . it seems much easier to fire offhand groups @ 50 yds after warming up at 200! And the good thing is that we have almost two months remaining to compete.
It was miserable today. Much like being on the coast of Texas and no wind to speak of.
My two 444's were so hot they were stringing pretty badly because there wasn't enough of a breeze to cool them down. It sure is hard to make yourself adjust up the bullseye when the shots are going so well. Next time I will. The XS is sure a lot harder to shoot groups with than the SpeedDot I had on the 444SS last year.

I was on vacation and missed this thread, any chance you wanna go up against one of my bolt guns? I know I can't touch you with my 32 yet, any of my bolt guns will whoop up on your lever any day of the week
Waaaaaaaaaaaaa

I'll take that as a "no" then. It's a shame too, I would have enjoyed taking your money. I guess that just proves that the lever guys are too afraid to play against the bolt guns.

Your missing the whole point JB. I'm sure we all have bolt guns or single shot or target rifles that will out shoot one gun or another. I have a 22LR that I shoot flys and grasshoppers off the target board at 100 yards with, I have a 220 swift that I can shoot the head off a p.dog at 200 yards with. It's apples and oranges.
These targets are being sent in with open sights and 4x max power scopes. With pretty much factory leverguns, they are not all tricked out like many of the space guns, they dont have 20x scopes on them. Just plain ol hunting rifles that guys go out and kill stuff with. It is not the "group" size that really matters. What really matters is shooting your levergun to the best of your ability, not an arms race as to who can spend the most on stocks, barrels, scopes, trigger jobs ect. Now get some loads worked up for that 32 Spl and get shootin. ;)

I understand the point, I just know that I am not there yet with my 32 and I doubt I will get there with that gun right now, I am still learning iron sights. My posts were as much in jest as anything.

Have you considered a Williams receiver siight for the Winchester? The factory rear sight can be a PITA to get adjusted exactly by tapping with a dowel and hammer and some times you run into problems like I have had where one notch is too low and the next notch is too high. I just got done putting a Williams sight on my 1895 LTD because of that. For hunting, the factory sight was good, but for RD's match trying to get it right smack dab in the bull the adjustment was not there.
Here is the link to Williams check out a sight for your Winchester. Midway usually has pretty good prices on them.

I have one with target knobs, I put in on as soon as I got the gun, I have the middle size apeture for hunting and the .050 target one in now. Having never shot iron sights, I just have to get used to the sight picture

Dave my "leaveher action" happens to have a bolt on it - Would that be OK for your personal man-to-man challenge?
jb, if you will go to davidtubb.com and jarheadtop.com, and read some of the articles I believe you will learn some stuff that will help your iron sight shooting. I know it did mine.

Ray,
Where you been dude??? Ray, we have to go by the posted rules. I thought about welding a lever to the bolt on my .308. :D :D Sorry, but I closed the challenge until the match is over. This could get pretty expensive and I just knew you would be coming up to shoot the PM. ;)
Good to see ya posting. Now, shoot some PM targets.

All the rain has dropped the temperatures and I was out finishing up my work with the TLC432-285-RF (original issue) and Benchmark. This is a load I developed with the ladder method. Unfortunately I was shooting at a "sight-in" target and using a bag for a butt stock rest.... got a .38" group at 100-yards. This is with 50.9-grains of the Benchmark from my 444T. Walking out the door to get a bunch ready for the Postal Match target and slapping Dave back right straight across the face!!!
.38
YIKES!!!! ;)
Send me 5 of those :D
