A friend of mine has a chance of getting his hands on some cheap Winchester 735 powder. Problem is he asked me what was it's burning rate as he couldn't find a listing for it. He thought that maybe this was some old stock no longer in general sales. Well I tried looking up in my older references and such but could not find any reference to a Win 735.
Closest I could find was some old Win/Olin 755. Anyone out there have any information or suggestions on the burning rate and usage for Wicnhester 735? That is if it does exist.
Thanks much, please email if possible as I'm a shift worker and haven't been on much this year.
Probably best to get on the Olin Winchester powder website and see if they have a listing. Can't find it in any of my powder charts.

Odds are it's a non-canister powder. What we buy off the store shelves is canister grade. No two batches of powder are ever exactly the same, so they mix and test until they get as close as possible to the reference performance data for that powder. They are very good at it, but there are still what we reloaders cal "lot to lot variations" even in canister grade.
When they CAN'T match a given lot to a canister powder, they don't toss it all in the trash but sell it to ammunition companies as non-canister powder. The ammo company uses it in factory ammo - after testing it to see how it performs.
There are two notable results to all this: one, you cannot say what powder is used in factory ammo because what's in there doesn't match anything you can buy. And two, that's where odd powder numbers come from - and why they don't show up in data manuals.

Never heard of it. I have to wonder...if your friend saw this in an ad, could it be a typo? My only other suggestion is perhaps the label had been damaged and the powder in question is actually 785. You see if the left side of the "8" were torn off or covered it would look like a "3".

Thank you for your replies. I thought as much but do appreciate confirmation. I have let my buddy know what your thoughts were concerning the Win735.

Addendum: to my question about Win 735. It turns out that it is a military surplus powder that came on the market that Higginson's Powders in Canada got hold of. It's 5% faster than H335 or very close to BLC2. So Rocky Raad you were on the money!!!
