I brought this up earlier but it was nixed. I think we need to make allowances for the scoped offhand or we will not get enough entries. I know others besides me can't get 5 on a 8X11 so they can't send in thier entry.
I am running this by the Ranch Dog. I have one target to send that has 4 on the paper but I have shot some since and have not done as well. If I am wrong about this, I will not feel bad. I just think it would get the category open if us not so dead eyes could send in a target.

I've thought about this also and was going to suggest this for next year but maybe it could be done this year. How about 100yds,scoped either sitting or kneeling? I do a lot of practicing from the kneeling position and use it a lot in the field and field practice is what we're after here.I'd probably shoot it with open sights myself as thats what I have on all but 1 of my leverguns, I won't be much of a threat to anyone either way but I think it would be fun!!

What allowances do you have in mind... those offered by 1894CL?

I think the open sight offhand has shooters. The scoped does not. I personally think I can get 3 on the paper. Same scoring. I just can't get 5. Do the rest of you think you could get 3 on. If that is OK with the shooters that have already turned in a 5 shot group, I would be willing for their best 3 to count since us folks that can't get 5 are forcing the rule change. Then they would still have targets in and the advantage of best of 5 where we have to get 3 on the paper. If that is unfair then we will shoot 5 but the best 3 count even if only 3 are on the paper.
I hope that made since.
Of coarse the other option is to start over and let the offhand scoped be at 50 yds. That does not seem fair to the folks that have a target in at 100 yds. but if the class don't open it don't matter anyway.
Chief,
Just keep swimming dude!! You CAN do it!!!!! That will earn you better bragging rights that any bench rest shooting.

Why not just shoot until you have 5 shots on paper? That ought to work.

Practice. It's time I got into this, and I'm out of practice too. It took 6 targets before I got them all in the rings, barely. It doesn't help that most of my offhand practice was with a .22, scoped and a 2 lb. trigger. It takes time to adjust to a .35 Remington, receiver sight and most important, a 4 lb. trigger.

Let's just keep shooting until you have 5 on the paper. Don't have to write any rule about that... The rules sure don't say it has to be 5 out of 5 shots. Once you have 5 holes in a target, stop shooting as the 6th hole would disqualify the target. This would keep with the KISS prinicple!

Sounds good, I just need to get shooting!! Would open sights would be allowed in the scope category at 100yds if we want to try?

OK. Problem solved. I was under the impression you had to put your 5 rounds on the paper. I did not understand you could shoot 25 to get 5 on the paper. No problem.

It's up to you, be sure you clearly mark your target Offhand - Scope.

I have a 45-70 scoped, offhand target that is going in the mail tonight; great group, maybe my best ever, only its off the bull at around 7:00. I've done alot of offhand rifle shoot competitions with this rifle, and have only come close to this kinda group offhand a few times. Maybe not close enough to the bull to win but whata group offhand!!! :D :D :D
Good luck and good shootin'!!

PS If I knew how to post this group I would, but I'm computer illiterate!!! LOL

Chief, Dry fire. Then dry fire some more, it greatly improves offhand shooting

I propose that we allow the match to run until September 30. I think we ended up doing this last year.

I agree, Micheal. If for no other reason than simply a little relief from the heat. September is by no means cool where I am, but it's not as miserable as July and August :( .
As long as it doesn't interfere with your preparation for hunting season, I'm all for it ;) .

As I'm so far behind, I'd really like it to be extended through September.
Make it official Ranch Dog.

No problem here Ranch Dog;
Weather up here in high 90's - triple digits. Maybe not as hot as some as you other folks, but the humidity has been over 90-95% for 2 straight weeks with those temps....
gives me more time to try and at least get on the the scoreboard with all those ringers over in the scoped bench category, but downside is all those ringers may catch me in the offhand scoped!!
All in good fun and many a marksman made at
Ranch Dogs Postal Matches!! :D
