New to the forum here but not to reloading, I normaly use 210gr Nosler Part in my 338 BUT I got a good deal on some SST bullets $12.99 per box there 225gr, anyone shoot or use them? what is your take on them as far as a BG bullet, there accuracy, I really did not buy them to hunt with but at that price they should work on paper just fine or would they be a viable hunting bullet.

I haven't done much paper punching with either, but personally I have found the 225gr. to be a little more accurate in my gun.
I like the 225 on Deer and bear better than the lighter. They tend to not damage as much meat. I didn't do the shooting my brother did, but the 225 works just fine on Elk. The one exception might be your SST's. I have found with 3 other calibers, that the SST's are a fair amount more explosive than another bullet of the same weight.

Haven't shot the SST's in anything but 6.5mm rifles, but they are my "go-to" bullets now. Great accuracy and very dependable expansion on game. Mine haven't blown up - just punched holes through both sides and left a mess in between.

What critters have you shot with them?

i'll head out to the range next week and check the accuracy in my 338, it will be a mute point if they don't fly straight.

Thanks and I hope there are some 338 shooters that have used them and post up.

Deer for the most part.

I can't imagine using anything other than SST's as well, tho' I can't speak for the .338 specifically. My .308 with 165's is now my go-to gun, leaving my Weatherby behind. The wounds are even more destructive than larger bullets travelling 300-400fps faster! Exit holes as large, more internal damage, tho'. Amazing. And more than accurate, oh, yes. Now, if I was shooting something really thick-skinned or bears, I doubt I'd go SST's. But for everything else....I should note that I've now dropped 4 deer IN THEIR TRACKS using 4 bullets. An accountant's dream, you don't use too many. None took one step.

In my experimenting with different bullets in the 300RUM I've found that while the 165 and 180 grain SST's are very accurate they won't hold up to the impact velocities generated by Ultra mag. I've Swiched to the Swift Scirroco II's for the tough stuff. While a monster exit hole might be nice on a deer, an elk or moose needs something that will hold together and exit the other side. Something I doubt the SST's would do.
