Always been happy with mine, accurate and reliable. Mines one of the original production. REALLY sharp backstrap checkering, but I actually prefer the way it feels compared to later production HK's I have. For magazines, check out;
www.cdnnsports.com, they've got good prices.

Dozer,

I purchased an H&K USP Compact (.40) in 2000. I purchased a Compact, because the USP is just too big for my hands. The pistol is lightweight, durable, reliable, and precise. It has expended 4,000 rounds of 180-grain ammunition without a malfunction. The checkering was quite sharp, so I knocked of the sharp points with a finger nail file. I really like the pistol. It is very well designed and manufactured.

H&K enthiaiats have a forum called HKPro.com. It would be another fine place to glean informationa about USPs.

Best wishes :) ,

I have a full size USP .40 and I love it. H&K makes good guns.

I have two H&K USP .40 Compacts, one issued for duty, one I bought because I like it. I use it in IPSC Limited 10, and I also carry one on and off duty. I've put close to 5000 rounds through the issue weapon, and probably 2000 through my personal one. I use my personal weapon for competition and off duty, primarily because we are not authorized to use handloads in our issue firearms, and buying factory ammo for competition and practice is cost prohibitive. H&K firearms are well made and rugged. I have had zero problems with either of mine, and that includes failures to feed or fire. They have run 100% from the first round to date. I have what they call LE mod 7 on mine, and that means that it is DAO. This trigger takes some practice, as it is sort of a three stage affair, long light takeup, short harder press, followed by the break. The reset is fairly short though, so follow on shots are not bad. I prefer my 1911 single stage, but that's not what they gave me. All in all, you'll be happy with an H&K. One afterthought though; you can't use cast bullets in it because of the polygonal "rifling" that is in the barrel. If you're going to use cast bullets, you need to find another pistol, as I don't think anyone makes an aftermarket barrel for the USP with conventional rifling. I use Rainier Ballistics 165 gr TMJ FP's for my handloads, which I get for $63/1000. Have fun.
