Other than that they made good solid single shot rifles and shotguns in the 1880's and eventaully were absorbed into Hopkins and Allen...not much. Hopkins and Allen made many guns under store-brands back then (just about any name you'd want to have stamped on it if you bought enough) and was aso the maker of Merwin-Hulbert revolvers (which are some pretty well made handguns, even if they work on an odd system).

Not real sure if the old Bay State factory kept on producing independently under the H&A label, or if their designs were absorbed into the H&A system and they just rpoduced parts to be assembled at other factories or not.

In general, would belive arms marekd Bay Stae would earn a bit more $ than the same guns marked H&A (and eitehr of those more $ than the same gun offered as some store brand).

I've worked with a few of the H&A falling blocks...simple solid guns...and have seen a few Bay State falling blocks...are very close in design.

Someone out there help...was there one in deHass's book on single shot rifes? Lost that book, so can't look it up.

Anyeay, have found some for sale on the antique sellers on the web...usually now low prices, and often with errors in the description, but at least they have pictures.
