Hi Folks,
Being a handgun collector, i recently started a database (MS Acces) and would like to record also the manufacturing year of my new or used handguns.
Mostly Colt and S&W guns, i would like to know who can date the guns according to the serial number. I couldn't find such a service at Colt or S&W!.

For S&W the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" will give you everything you need up to the late '80s when the alphabet serials started. For Colt there is a pamphlet from R. L. Wilson entitled, or very close to "Colt Dates of Manufacture".

Ohhhhh... that kind of dating. I was going to say that I just took three out on a date...to the range.
