This is just the site I was looking for.

Yesterday I picked up new (unfired) winchester 3030 94AE. It has a black synthetic stock on it (believe it's called a "Shadow" ?)

I looked all over the interweb trying to find some info on it and all I could find was one for sale on gunsamerica similar to mine.
(Any info you guys could point me towards on this model would be appreciated).

I'm a regular at arfcom and a few other forums, so I'm familiar with "rules of the road" as far as forums go.

It looks like you have a pretty good group here. I look forward to learning more about other rifles besides the "Evil Black Rifle" :D

Thanks,

HM

Welcome to the forum Harvey. Rules are pretty simple, be nice and join in. WOW stationed on Guam, what a place to be for a hunter. Hope the fishing is good.

I'm not a lever action guy, but we've got quite a bunch here that are. One of them may have some info on your shadow. I see that the new leverevolution ammo is breathing lots of new life into the lever actions.

I'm kinda a bolt action Remington guy and deer, elk and varmit hunt here in Idaho. I too enjoy the forum and we do have a great bunch of folks whom are willing to share their experiences with us.

Again welcome to the forum.

Welcome, HM -

You'll find a lot of specialized forums here on the board. I've moved your question to the Model 94 portion of the Levergun forum. We try to keep things in their rightful slots to afford space in the General Discussion forum for the odds and ends of hunting/firearm questions.

Thank you. I meant for this to be a "Hi I'm here" post, but I guess it was more of a "Here's my new gun" post.

My bad.

Thanks for setting me straight.

The model 94 is pretty well established already. Angle eject was in the 80's so as to allow scope mounting above the bore.
Makes no difference with what the stock is made from. It is a great rifle from my view.

Thanks Cheezy.

Anyway I can find out how old my rifle is based on the ser#? Is there a site with this info (similar to the Glock) ?

I know it's only a few years old, but I'd like to know none the less..

If your rifle was built before 1983 you would be able to.

That is the cutoff date for publicized S/N's for Win 94s

If built after, you can either have it lettered or wait till the published data comes out.

Thank you meanc. This one I'm sure is only a few years ago. I'll try asking Winchester to see if they can provide the info.

The Winchester 94 in my experiance is one of the best rifles ever built, great woods rifle. I have used the two I have for 20-30 years and have killed alot of whitetails with them. Have fun shooting your new rifle. AND WELCOME TO shooters forum

Thank you.

I just had my local gun dealer order me some ammo (they don't normally carry any 3030), so hopefully I can shoot this thing sometime soon.

Have you used that new ammo with the rubber tip? Leverevolution from Hornandy I think? I saw that on the outdoor channel a few weeks before I got this rifle so I didn't really pay that much attention to it at the time..

Also, I'd like to replace the synthetic stock on this with a wooden stock. Can anyone recommend a dealer?

Thanks,
HM

The Hornady LeverEvolution bullet is nice, but when I can get Federal 30-30 ammo at $9 a box, I really need a good reason to spend over $15 unless I'm planning on really long shots. Out to 150 yards you won't see much difference. I purchased two boxes, shot one and found that at 100 yards I didn't have to change the sights. I still have the second box. I'm not berating it, I just don't need my 30-30 for long range shooting.

As to the stock, you can check with Boyd's Gunstocks. They make replacement stocks in a variety of grades at very reasonable prices. I've purchased several items from them and been quite happy.

Good luck with your project!
