Hi, I am new to the forum and I have a question I'd like to ask you guys.
My friend recently got a Winchester 94 that is in .45 caliber, and we don't really know much about it. The thing I was wondering about is what kind of ammo would you purchase for this gun? Does it take the standard .45 Auto or is it something different. I would greatly appreciate your help on this. Thanks.

Use ONLY 45 long colt !!!!
DO NOT USE 45 ACP / 45 AUTO !!!!!

Welcome.... yes, it's a .45 Colt, or .45 Long Colt.... but not .45 Auto / .45 ACP (or anything else for that matter).
It's a big long rimmed case and will appear similar to a .44 mag (but don't use those either).

Don't worry I wasn't planning on using the wrong kind of ammo.:) I just wanted to make sure we knew what we had and hadn't just dreamed up something different than it is.
Any other info that we should know would be welcome too. And whats the cheapest .45 Colt available? I found some on SPG for $12 something a box of 50. Thanks for your help.

That's actually a good deal for 45lc ammo.
Unless you reload, the majority of factory ammo is very weak... think of comparing a 22 to a 9mm, but if you and your friend are wanting to experience some power out of that rifle, there are some excellent loads put out by buffalo bore. Mind you these are very expensive compared to the factory offerings, but man, do they get your attention.
