Great pictures, Catman253. How do you like your PPK/S?
It's a great little pistol, chambered in .380, and was my first CCW gun back in the day.
It will bite you on occasion but it is reliable and I never felt "under-gunned".
I went to a Smith .38 J-Frame Chief's Special for a while and then I found a nickel Model 10-5 round butt and that's been my carry gun since then.

Like that model 10. I had a very smooth 50s vintage model 10 in my younger, dumber days and foolishly let it go for a song.
Recently, I received my concealed carry permit, but my 1911 and 4" model 19 are a bit much for shirt sleeve weather. I want something that will fit in my pants pocket without hanging up, and the PPK/S looks like it would fill the bill nicely. A .380 ACP is my minimum.

Over the last 45 years I've had more than a few good handguns. Probably my favorite over the last ten years has been a little Rossi 22 lr.
I had a little 4 inch Smith kit gun that had been armaloyed. Carried it for years and then it got stolen. When I went to replace it I found this little Rossi new in a pawn shop near where I lived. I was going to buy another J frame Smith but when I saw the little stainless Rossi I kind of fell in love. It resembled the old Model 19 Smith 357 I first owned, except, it looked like it had been washed and shrunk a little. I bought it on the spot.
Wonderful thing was it shot like a house afire and was one of the most accurate small handguns I've ever owned.
I can't tell you how many bricks of ammo have went thru this little six shooter, but a bunch. I like it as much as I did when I first saw it and it's probably the most shot revolver I own.

Catman, I've been lusting after a 3-inch Model 36 since my rookie year, and that was a looooooong time ago. My partner had one that looked similar to yours, only a lot more worn. I begged him to sell it to me, but he wouldn't turn it loose, now he's retired and still won't let it go. Thanks for posting that, for a moment I was a newby with a razor-cut, pressed uniforms, and shiny new shoes................that squeaked when I walked. Didn't sneak up on anyone 'til I got smart and found better shoes!

Several months ago, my aunt asked if I would look at my late uncle's guns and check on their condition and maybe tell her what they were.
I was thrilled, having never seen any of his guns with the exception of a pair of revolvers I had seen as a child forty-plus years ago.
He was a machinist and mechanic for Piedmont Airlines (later USAIR, USAirways, etc.) for his entire career and was very talented so I figured he didn't own any junk.
I was right. When I got there, she started pulling guns out from under the bed...the long guns first. A Wichester Model 70 XTR with presentation walnut furniture, a Red Letter Winchester 20 Gauge single shot, a Mossberg 500 with walnut stocks and 30" blued barrel, several single shot 12 gauges, a Stevens 12 gauge side by side, an old rabbit eared 12 gauge side by side (wall hanger), a nice little Sears .22 semi-auto rifle which turned out to be a Marlin manufacture and several others. They had been stored in the ceiling joists in the attic in the years since his death.
Then the handguns...the first thing out of the big cardboard box was a S&W Model 28-2. She was afraid it was stolen because it said "Highway Patrolman" on the barrel .
There was also the CZ Model 27 WWII manufacture pistol that I recently posted and a Herbert Schmidt small frame .22 single action revolver.
And there were also the two revolvers I had seen as a child. A stainless steel pair of .22 caliber, ten shot single action revolvers with walnut grips...that my uncle had made.
I had always remembered those guns, even though I had not seen them in over forty years and remember being so impressed that my uncle had made them himself.
I got all of the guns disassembled, cleaned up and lubed and re-assembled and, in fact, shot most of the rifles and handguns (had to make sure they worked and were safe ) but I hesitated to take apart the revolvers because it appeared that my uncle had even manufactured the individual screws for these guns and I was afraid I'd never get them back together. He had used the Herbert Schmidt revolver as his prototype and built two copies of it in stainless steel.
Two things my aunt told me...my uncle never put sights on these guns because he didn't want his kids (my cousins) to shoot them and that the grips were made from a black walnut tree from his mother's (my grandmother's) back yard.
It appeared that one of the guns had been test fired but the other looked pristine. The oil had long since dried up and the actions were gummy and stiff.
I cleaned them up, and there were some timing and lock up issues as well as a push off problem with one of them so I have rendered them inert and inoperable. I've polished them with Flitz and commissioned a woodworker friend to construct a pair of milled walnut, crushed-velvet lined shadowbox display cases so that his two grandsons can each have an example of his craftmanship to display.

Can I play again???
Just picked this one up from a friend...it belonged to his father, and as he's not into guns, sopld it to me for a song.
Using Clawson's collectors guide I have narrowed it down to a Colt 1911, model 1911 of U.S. Army, built in the whereabouts of may-july 1918. According to the Serial, and the markings inside the slide, it dates to the "black Army" finished colts. All fit the 1918 criteria, except for the WWII era arched Remington rand Mainspring housing.
According to the book, Colt finished the guns in this period in a rough finish, making the blueing appear almost black. It also stated that the finish often seperated from the metal, flaking down to the bare steel.
Well according to my friend's dad, when he bought this gun in the 50's, it had a terrible black finish, one he referred to as parkerizing, but peeling. Some time during the seventies he had it ........Hardchromed.........yes, I heard you all just groan, but actually,
I feel it really saved the metal from further damage. It's safeties, trigger and mainspring housing were deep blued and hi polished, and whoever did the work took the time to really preserve the rollmarks and Ordinance proofs.
Value wise, I know that as a collector, it's value is slammed due to the hardchrome, but as a shooter, I feel that with a replacement trigger and trigger job, a new front sight [pinned], I'll have a solid 1911 that'll shoot forever.
Yes, I've changes every spring in the gun so far to a set of Wilson Combat springs, and she feels tighter already!
So please enjoy the pics of the resurected warhorse, and pleas, add some comments.
I also must add that she wears a set of Hakan Pek desert Ironwood grips right now, till I deceide what fits her best.

Everyone is afraid of the recoil of these wheelguns, but honestly, this gun is easily controllable. so far, i've shot up to a 265 grain Keith bullet with no issues. keeping all weights to a limit of 850-900fps. The Scandium and titanium make it light as a feather.
Got to admit I'd be afraid to fire the same gun in 44 mag. Hoping Smith makes one in 45 colt.

she's one gun of three.
She came with the green combat grips pictured here, and a set of Rubber hugues.
Sent for the factory letter, says they were special ordered for a sporting goods company's exec's out in colorado. Sure would pay anything to find the other two!!!!

I'd post, but I got two problems:
1. Can't decide which is my favorite, mighty fond of all of 'em.
2. My photography would be plumb embarassin' compared to some of the stuff I see here!

Ruger P95 (9mm) very reliable. Bedside pal.
Springfield 1911 Micro Compact (.45), my carry buddy.
Missing a wheel gun, hunting for a 44 mag now to add to the family.

That is one cool revolver, Chris!
It's unfired too!
the guy that owned it before me never shot it, but dry fired it on snap caps enough to make a cylinder line...:(

Here is my S&W 629 Magna Classic. The grips shown are the ones that I like the looks of, but the larger full round butt finger groove grips or the Goodyears that came with it are better with hevy loads. There are eight removable front sight combinations that came with this revolver.

Don't shoot long range, and don't have anything bigger than deer to hunt...so these three could easily do it all for me.

Yes...are well used, even beat up a bit in some cases....but that's becasue they ARE used (for many years in the M57's case) and i expect them to have evidence of the good times.
Wife got me the .22 less than a year ago....the .357 was in a shoe box with a ruined ejector rod and extractor star (owner had dropped it...hard and far) and got repaired, while the M57 is a Katrina survivor (Nickle plate and a thick coat of RIG saved it).

550 rds through her, so she's purring right now. Will drill a hole at 25 yards from a free rest. Only a month old. I need to start reloading!
