I just got a Dillon Square Deal B from an ebay seller. Had to convert it from a 9mm to a 45 ACP. It is working great after the initial trial and error setting it up. I do have a powder spillage problem. It's not a lot when you consider how many reloads I am doing at one time, but it is frustrating. Any ideas?

Perhaps something as simple as a small container under the source of the leak? You can call Dillon. Have heard some pretty good things about thier customer support.

I am assuming this is either leaking around the powder measure bar or the drop tube? Call Dillon about either problem. They will replace any worn part on that machine for free.

Another source of spilled powder in Dillons comes from indexing too fast. The charged case lurches forward and stops so quickly that powder sloshes up out of the case as it arrives under the seating die. If that's where your spilling is, slow down both to stop the spilling and to keep from loading undercharged rounds.

RLEEH,

I have a SDB and have had the same problem. I emailed Dillon Customer Service about it. Dillon replied that some of their powder measure bars were a bit out of spec, and they were working on a redesign/manufacture to fix it. C.S. told me to stick a piece of Scotch tape on one of the bars (between them) as a temporary fix. My problem was not severe, just a bit annoying. The temporary fix has worked just fine for several years now. I am satisfied with it, so I've not asked Dillon for the new bars.

Best wishes,

I have 2 Dillon Reloaders. A Square Deal, and a RL-450. I think Dillon makes a great reloader with even greater customer service. That being said, their powder measures are crap! They are cheaply produced, (die cast Aluminum), and can and do bind up with very fine ball powders like H-110 and the like. It's the one item I really wish they would improve on. On my RL-450 I usually use my Redding or Lyman 55 in place of the Dillon, but on the Square Deal I'm stuck with it. My measure on my RL-450 isn't coated. The one on my Square Deal, (the third), is. Bill T.

I have no problems with the powder measuer on my RL550B, even when I load stick powder in 22-250's you just have to slow down and let the powder fall into the case, ball powders are no problem what so evever!

Since you didin't say where the powder was leaking from to me it sounds like you simply need to slow down your loading speed, and I load at the rate of about 250 44mag's or 40S&W's an hour.

Billt brings up a good point. Very small grain powders such as H110 can leak around the drum on a lot of measures if not fairly tight. For the price, the Lee Perfect Powder Measure is a great reloading tool, but does have a tendency to leak fine grained or flake powders a bit around the drum.
