Thought this would cool us off some. :D This was back in February. It was -15 F. that day. We roasted some Wimmer's weiners over the fire and made some hot chocolate.
After that we went home and reloaded some 44mags for Curt to take home to Twin Falls. Tried to call in some coyotes the next day, but the wind worked against us.

Yeah - that's how I remember Colorado up near DuBois on Roan Creek when I got a nice bull elk back in '86. Almost got hyperthermea that trip!

Our temperature has been running near the hundred mark and will top a hundred over the next few days. That's hot for up here in Idaho.
The hillsides are drying up and the fire season is in full swing. I'm planning on going fishing up on the Montana border this weekend. Got the new shop doors on so's I can put my rig's inside this winter so's I can work on them where it's warm. Been to hot to work during the middle of the day so's been sleeping and working later in the evening.
Here's a pix a couple miles above my place a few winters ago when I was coyote hunting. The second pix is of the Town of Peck where I live. Every place from here is up.
Anyway great pix recoil. The elevation where I live is about 1850 feet. Practically a banana belt compared to the rest of Idaho.

Ahhh, nice photos fellas! Close to 100 here today. And here's that old western saying (imported from the south/east)......at least it's a dry heat.
I talked to a friend in Anchorage today and he was moaning about it hitting 77 there. It's all relative to what you've acclimated to!

Our weather report says it's going to hit 110 here on Sunday and were looking at almost a week over a hundred. Think I'm going to go up to the headwaters of Orofino Creek and do some fishing from the middle of the creek. We got lots of floaters on the Clearwater and the swimmin hole at Dwarshak Dam is full every day.
At least the darn grass is slowing down so I don't have to mow so much. I don't water it and when it dries up it's a blessing, especially with the price of gas.

Grass? What grass?
I mowed the dirt earlier this morning, mainly to get rid of a few weeds....
My rocks don't need mowing...............
Something green shows up other than what the wife planted, it gets stomped on.

The grass is terrible here. If you get a long wet spring it's almost impossible to keep up with. Everyone is so glad when it finally gets to hot for it to grow much.
I'm looking to have to buy a new riding mower next spring and $1600 to $2400 is the price range of new ones. Hopefully I'll be able to find a good used one this fall after the mowing season is done.
One of the worst things that happens around here is to get a wet summer. Just the thought of the money you have to poor into a mower could buy a nice new rifle. Durn grass anyway.
30 miles south In Lewiston and Clarkston when they burn off the dead grass along the Snake river everyone complains about the smoke and such.
One of the local newspaper readers suggested they plant hemp, then when it's burnt off every year it would be a local festivel. Anyway I'm not sure what they were talking about.
Here's a pix of where I'm talking about, the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater rivers.

Hemp is also called Canabis, or Marijuana, also known as Pot. I guess they would have a real big festival complete with all the Dope (Pot) Heads. :D :D
Just saw the digital theromometer crawl past 120 deg - if this keeps up, gonna have to go hunt up a sweater - brrrrrrrr!!!

rj,
Don't know if you have rattlesnakes at your elevation, but here, at about 5200 ft, the heat wave seems to have driven them down to our neighborhood. One neighbor found a 4-footer on his lawn a few weeks ago. Just today, another neighbor found a little 5-inch baby in his garage. Watering my trees on my back hill will be done a little more cautiously from now on! We're getting a reprieve though, only just touching the 80's all this week.

It has been in the mid 90's here the last week. Humidity at 60-80%, depending on rain. Right now it is foggy outside with another hot day on tap. Seems like I get stuck outside at work when it is like this. No casting or shooting for a few days, just reloading in the air conditioning.
Thanks for the pics r-j.

Here is where I often go to beat the heat. 20-30 degrees cooler when the temps get into the 90s and 100s where I live. It was 103 here yesterday and an unusual 87 in Grand Marais.

Got a much needed break from temps in the hi 90's to low 100's. It started raining last night and into the am. I had to use the wipers on hi and could only go 45-50 mph on the way to work @ 0400. Just checked the rain gauge and there's almost 1/2 inch so far and more rain coming!!! :D It was a balmy 61 here this afternoon. Bout time to go dust off the snowmobile :D
Shawn, we have hi altitude buzz worms here. At 6180 there aren't many but the few there are get pretty big. Had a 4 footer by the mine office a couple weeks ago. Sam dispatched another 4 footer at the mine this past weekend. We don't have any, or I should say I haven't seen any around the house north of Craig yet.

That's pretty high elevation for buzzers. Ours seem to not like it above about 5500 here. Been dipping into the 40's at night here....now that's nice!
Can guarantee you they're up past 7500' here in Ariz. Guess they're looking for a cool spot like the rest of us!!! :p

Kdub: Time to move to Flagstaff. Must be at least 7,000 feet there if I remember right..

Geez, all the more reason to hunt up high I guess! Thought there might be a minimum oxygen issue with snakes, but maybe more of a temperature issue. The two that were caught in my neighborhood, the catchers took them up the canyon and released them....they wouldn't be converting oxygen anymore if I'd have found them. ;)
Got'um up there, too!!!

Hey guys, had the pleasure to visit both of these beautiful places; Craig Colorado on a 9 day late season mule deer and elk hunt, and I have a freind that lives on the Lochsa River in Idaho. I shot a couple of nice whitetails over the years there, and did a little elk hunting too. You guys are very lucky to live in such pristine places !
