Since there is a high nickel content to the receiver and bluing won't work, will Parkerizing work on the receiver of a '94

If you do that, you'll go to heII for sure.

If you are talking about a pre-'64, they blue just fine. Virtually all modern firearms use a nickel bearing alloy of some type. If you mean a post-'64, then nickel isn't the problem. Depending on when the gun was made the receiver could be finished in several ways. Blue over iron plating, black chrome, of bright nickel plate. None of these receivers are likely to take well to parkerizing.

Yeah, it was made in '71 and and the use of the word Nickel was probbly wrong. I am betting it is the black chrome finish on it.

I was hoping parking would work because I don't want to pay for chroming on a $80 gun when I can get it parked for the price of a pizza.

A few years back I picked up a 94 out of a pawn shop for $40.00 that looked pretty rough on outside, but had a mint bore, so I cleaned it up and decided to rblue it knowing that the receiver would come out with a sort of a metalic bronze toned purple. I was intending to use it for a display to show customers what would happen to their guns if I tried re-bluing them. It only sat on the shelf for a couple of days before it sold for considerably more than I had invested in it.
The receivers don't seem to rust after bluing, so I am guessing that they must contain a large ammount of Monel in them. Winchester (Before USRAC,) just said that they were iron plated and then blued. wouldn't say what the material was,

No, I never took a picture of it, I wish I had. I bought it with the intention of boreing it out to .35/30-30, but the bore was shiney with good sharp lands and groves. Still think it would have made a nice Wildcat.

The high nickel content that you refer to is what causes the "Winchester flaking" as it's known to collectors, on the pre-war guns, normally. Your '71 is the cast receiver model and as Alk8944 stated, they were plated before they were blued.

Here is a '94 a fella used Duracoat OD on;

This fella thought it would look nice if he rubbed all the finish off and cleared it,but never did and let it rust.I have stripped it down and soaked everything in lizard piss.

I can't honestly say sir, the carbine isn't mine.

Are you aussie, on the Leverguns board?
You might look for a fella by the name of Dave King (IIRC) it's his Winchester.

OK, here is the thread in which he talks about refinishing his carbine.

If you take the time to get the surface cleaned up and use a very light coating of K-phos or such, you should be good to go.

Duracoat comes in lots of colors and finishes.

If you take your gun and clean it up and get off as much crud as possible, then, use some JB Weld to fill in the areas that are either pits or such, you can redo your gun with duracoat.

It won't fool anyone into believing it is a reblue or factory bluing, but, it will certainly stop it from rusting and it will keep out the elements far better than cold or hot blue jobs will.

Its for those guns that, you don't dare throw away, but, you know it will never be a gunsafe queen.

Wharf, that has to be the saddest looking gun I have ever seen in my life. The old Sk's and AK's found on the jungle
floor didn't look that bad. If it had eyes there would be tears in them. Please tell me you are striving to give it back it's soul.

Of course mate,i hate seeing firearms in sad condition.I have stuck a problem though.I tried to drift the mag tube holding ring from the barrel,I didnt know(silly me) it was soldered on and i have broken it.I have contacted a fella in the US but i dont think hes to interested in dealing with someone from australia.I am going to have to try and make one.
