A few weeks ago, I got an email from someone that had read my report about my hunt in Zimbabwe. We exchanged emails for about a week, then he wanted to meet for lunch and discuss some specifics. We had a nice lunch in Anchorage and he had all kinds of questions (guess I really didn't do that good of a job in my report, they were good questions and important questions). By the time we had finished talking, he said he had been on the fence a few years, trying to figure out if he was going to Africa, Argentina or New Zealand, but he was going to make the call when he got home to book his safari. I asked him what I said for him to make that decision. "It wasn't really anything you said", he replied, "it was your what your eyes said when you were talking and the passion in the way you said it." He had lunches with folks that had been to New Zealand (for some reason lot's of Alaskans love to go to NZ for vacation) and to Argentina, but he read something in my eyes and body language that made him believe Africa was something different.
I hope he has a great trip...
Got another convert, eh?? :D

I dunno Botswana for Sitatunga versus New Zealand for Sika Deer . ............I'm going to New Zealand for Sika's.
I'd love to have a nice Sitatunga or two , but Sika Deer are my first love :D

- My decision to go to Africa was one of the best calls of my adult-life...I don't know how long it will be...
...OR - How I will pay for the next "African-Harvest"...
- BUT - I will go AGAIN.

You did a fine job on your stories alyeska, and you sure upped my interest and desire to go to Africa. I like reading the various gun mag stories on African hunts (Sports Afield is tops in this area), but your accounts and pics had something more to them, if only because I "know" you from this forum. Saving my pennies.....

Nonsense! No such thing as Africa fever! The fact that I can't get the place out of my mind even though it's over 14 years since I was there is irelevant! :)
Many years ago (in Panama) I saw a plaque that had these words that I have never forgotten:
"The spell of the tropics, it gets you worse than rum
You get away and you swear you'll stay
But she calls and back you come."
Africa casts a spell as far as I'm concerned. Be very careful about going to Africa. I promise you that you'll never get away from her.
