OK last night I replaced my J-lock safety on my Reminton 870 with a Scattergun Technologies oversized safety. I ordered the little detent ball and a new safety spring. However, with the new spring the safety mechanism is rather difficult to manipulate (read as requires alot of force to push it). If I use the original spring, it is considerably less difficult, but I think maybe the safety may become disengaged by itself. Is there some way to remedy this, should I cut a little off the new spring to make it less difficult, or will it break in after a while?
I am just curious, as of right now that is the only thing wrong with the safety. This part dropped right in with no fitting whatsoever.
Thanks!
Some replacement parts on firearms require manipulation to wear/lap into proper fit. Would try that route before trimming springs or using parts not supplied. You can always lube the parts and push back and forth until they have less resistance, then dry them off.

Did you order them seperately or were they a required item to make it work?

I ordered everything separately. The J-lock uses a little cylinder to engage the safety and when you turn it, it locks into the safety preventing it from moving until unlocked. The safeties before the J-lock only had a spring and detent ball, so I had to order at least the detent ball then ordered the spring assuming my original spring wasn't made for the ball safeties. The scattergun's safety is basically the same as the Remington one except with a larger head.
here is what I ordered
Spring (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=112447)
Detent Ball (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=227053)

the photo of the ball is kinda cool because you can see the reflection of the guy taking the picture :D

well I had some back and forth with emails with wilsoncombat and they said to use the original detent and spring and it works, so to use this safety all you have to do it buy this one part, remove old safety an insert new one, all other parts are fine
