While shooting several rifles at the range today that had iron sights, I discovered that at age 62 I no longer can create a good sight picture with open rear sights. I can however shoot quite using rifles with a rear peepsight. Apparently I can still create a good sight picture or centering of the target utilizing the halo affect of the rear sight that you get with peepsights.

I have a Remington 11-87 with a rifled barrel and iron sights for shooting sabots during the Lower Michigan gun deer season. I haven't used this gun in years but would like to use it this coming season. Does anyone know how I might adapt a Williams or similiar peepsight to the ramp of the rifled barrel.

That's a long bit of eye relief for a peep sight, unless you got one similar to a ghost ring.

Try googling Williams Sights and see if they don't make a rear receiver aprature sight for lthe 11-87.

I would stick a B-Square saddle mount on it and fasten the peep on the mount. Either that or a regular weaver mount on the reciever.

Something like this:

You can have it drilled and tapped for a Williams peep sight that will mount on the reciever. To make a peep work effectively it needs to be close to your eye. Check out Brownell's. They have several peep sight systems for law enforcement that will are designed for the Remington shotguns.

If you want the best of open sights for fitting on the existing rib take a look at the adjustable tru-glo sighting systems. They use light pipes and give you a glowing front green bead and double dot red beads for the rear sight simular to the three dot pistol sights. They are very easy to see and sight with. Brownell's and Midway will have them for your shotgun that simply fasten to the existing rib.

Personally I use a red dot sight on my shotgun for turkey hunting and at 60 with failing eyes also this works really well for me. I've gone to scopes for everything else.

This is what a set of tru-glow sights look like and the Aimpoint 5000 that's on my turkey gun.

You should be able to get a ghost ring sight that would fit it
