Morning All,
I have been reading about Red Dot sights but havnt seen one yet. Im sure they can be mounted on a NM Blackhawk but have a question as to shooting stance. Can the Red Dot be used when one is holding the pistol with one hand , arm xtended ( the old blackpowder dueling stance ). Or does one perhaps have to hold the weapon in both hands, and in close to the chest.
Thanks
Jack

Red dot sight's don't have many limitations to eye relief. You should be able to shoot one handed easily. There is normally no or very little magnification. Thats why no need for eye relief.

Jack, the red dot sight should be fine whether you shoot one hand or two hand grip. No need to hold in close due to short eye relief. The first thing I noticed when shooting a red dot sighted handgun was that at arms length shooting with both eyes open it becomes very instinctual and fast. If you know you are right handed and right eye dominant, or are aware of these things, you will like how it superimposes the dot over your target. Its very slick.

Jack try to get into a sporting goods store and look thru some of the Red dot sights. Most have no magnification and all you do is put the red dot on the target and shoot.
Some of the newer red dots do not have a tube you look thru, just a small glass/plastic screen that superimposes the dot on your target. Very fast and have no eye relief problems (nor do the tube type)
I like a small dot, the Aimpoint I have has a two minute dot and makes a handgun very accurate and easy to shoot.
Here is what mine looks like on a Ruger SRH.

I thinik you got the answer to your question..but why would you want to hold the gun w/one hand?
And if you are hold it w/two hands you shouldn't be holding it close to you.
The most accurate way to shoot your gun is w/2 hands and the isocoles stance (shoulders square/perpindicular to the target and both arms pointed straight towards the gun, w/the same shoulder angle)
