I live in central Oklahoma and am wondering if anyone knows of any place nearby that has the facilities for 1000 yd. shooting. I think it would be a blast to be able to shoot and also compete. I have heard of other ranges in other states the shoot 1000 yd bench, others shoot 600 and 1000 yd prone. I think it would be great to have something here that the average shooter could bring what he's got and set it up in classes so everyone can have some fun. Not just those who have the bucks to lay out for a full blown dedicated bench gun. All the rifle ranges around my neighborhood ar 125 yds. at most. It just isn't as much fun to shoot a powerful centerfire at a target just 100 yds. away. That's more of a challenge for my .22 rimfire

You can check with the Tulsa Red Castle Gun Club. They have a 1000 yard match at the Zink ranch North of Sand Springs. The OKC Gun Club has a 500 yard range just North of Arcadia, would probably be the closest for you. I don't know of any Clubs in Shawnee but you might check the web and see what comes up. I'm a member of Tri City, our range is just across the river South of Norman. The main rifle range is only 200 meters but it's close and I try to shoot at least one day a week. I shoot in a couple of 1000 yard matches a year (Spring and Fall) out Northwest of Watonga but they're not open to the general public. I wish we had something closer but it takes a large piece of land to support 1000 yard events. I haven't shot this weekend. I went Wednesday morning and talked the wife into busting off a warm 300gr XTP in my SRH .454 Casull...so I'm being punished and have to do yard work. Must be that "devious" stuff kdub was talking about. It was funny though, she didn't hit crap and said it hurt all the way back to her shoulder. She's game though, I'll give her that.

Sounds like Squint has the itch. Hope you find a place to shoot. It took me awhile to find a place for me to shoot at 500 yards. Ended up being on private property of a guy who holds is own Saturday afternoon matches. I just wanted to get the feel of my rifles at long range.

Shooting at 5o yds. with a rimfire is just getting boring. Shooting a centerfire @ 100 yds is ok for sighting in and checking accuracy. I got a chance to shoot my .17HMR @ 200 yd. and that got me itching to try some real long range shooting. I guess shooting my custom .22 @ 100 yds would be a challenge. Still about all I can do is yawn.
