View Full Version : Aperture sight for my Golden39M

I want to put an aperture sight on my Golden 39M, on the receiver, that doesn't mount on the side. The only thing I've found so far is the XS Ghost Ring Hunting Sight Set, which is what I have on my Winchester 94/44 Mag. It is a great sight set, but sits a bit high on the rifle due to its windage and elevation adjustments, and is quite a bit pricey.
I've considered the Williams WGRS sight, but it appears that the one for Marlins with flat top receivers would attach only to the rear scope mounting hole on the 39, and would probably hang off of the back of the receiver.
I've even considered buying one of the flat strap dovetail mounts that attaches to a Ruger 10/22, hoping to be able to drill it to match the holes on the 39, and then attach the WGRS that is for grooved receiver to that. Might work, wouldn't know until I'd found and bought the Ruger part.
Does anyone know of any other aperture sights that will work, without attaching to the side of the receiver?
Any suggestions/experience/ideas would be appreciated.

Take a look at this one eljay. You would have to install a rear weaver base, then install this all steel sight to the weaver base.

You will need a taller front sight.

Yes, I figured that. And Gismo, that's a good looking sight but, by the time I bought the Weaver mount for the 39, which I don't have, and then a new front sight, I would have spent more than for the XS Ghost Sight Hunting Set, which includes a rear aperture (ghost) sight, and a new front sight. And it's great hardware. If you haven't seen it, go look at it at http://www.xssights.com/store/rifle.html. I know they are quality hardware, as I have them on my Winchester 94.
And I think, by the time I mounted the Weaver mounting base on the rifle, then added the sight that you (Gismo) mentioned, I'd be as high as the XS set.
I'll probably wind up going with the XS set, unless something shows up I don't know about yet.
And thanks for the inputs, guys...

I understand about the cost, but that at least gives you the option of a regular peep over a ghost ring. The choice is yours. I was thinking you wanted a peep. The ghost ring you listed is a nice looking rig too. Too bad someone doesn't make a peep that would be the right height to match the rifles factory front sight.

I agree, to match the front sight height would be nice. My son mounted a Williams WGRS in the grooves of his Winchester 9422M, and that worked okay, but can't find a WGRS that I think will work right on the 39.
I also learned, with my 94/.44Mag with the XS Ghost Ring set, that converting to a peep is as easy as cutting a piece of automotive vacuum line of the right diameter to a length which matches the width of the XS Ghost Ring, compressing it enough to slip it in, and presto, a pretty good sized peep! Did that when I was sighting in the XS set on my 94/.44Mag.
Again, thanks for the inputs!

"that converting to a peep is as easy" Wish I'd read that before buying a new ghost ring that is threaded to take williams apatures!!!
