I have 2 Vaqueros and a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag. What is the best bullet sizze to start with. I've seen everthing from .427 to .430 listed in a bullet catalog.

Humpty,
Err on the large side and you will reduce leading problems. I would consider .430 the minimum, and up to .432 usually gives better results than .429. That .427 diameter is for the .44-40 and would likely give you terrible results. Good luck and keep us posted! ID

Thanks ID. I slugged my cylinders with .457 soft lead round balls (bet you can't guess what I shoot them in).
They slugged .431 in one and .432 in the other. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://beartoothbullets.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Yeah I'd go .432" in everything. If they'll chamber, they'll shoot good, I bet.
All the rugers I've loaded for did fine with .432". Good luck.
