I have some 215gr bullets and a pound of Unique. I want to load 8gr of this powder behind this bullet. However I only have magnum primers, is it safe to use magnum primers with this powder and charge weight?

Your load should be fine. The extra fire of the magnum primer is just not needed with Unique.

It will work good. That load will not be negatively uimpacted by the magnum primer, it is alow pressure load.
I use a Winchester WLP primer with 7-8 grains of Unique in the .41 mag S&W 657 6". 7 grains = 1020fps. Very accurate and pleasant to shoot.

Enjoy,
Jon

All I've ever used is magnum primers in my 41 mag. My reloading manual says you can use 8.4 to 9.3 grains of unique behind a 220 grain bullet. I don't think your going to have any trouble at all with 8 grains. It should be a nice load to shoot.

I'm using 8 grains behind one of Lee's 210 grain cast tumble lube bullets and it's a nice mild load in my 41 Taurus Tracker.

Thanks for the replies gents. I picked up some CCI LP primers on my way home. I just hope that this load shoots as ewll out of my S&W 58 like I read it has for lots of other folks.

I shot 6 with 8gr Unique CCI LP pistol primers, and another 6 all the same except I used The CCI Magnum primer instead.
The standard primer load was more accurate than the magnum pimer load as it shot within an inch of the sight @ 25yds. Where as the magnum pimer loads grouped sporadicaly. I also noticed that the recoil was still quite noticable with these loads, at least more than what I thought my 40 S&W recoils anyway. The standard primer load was an inch low. So I am thinking of going to 7.5 grains in hopes of bringing the bullet to the sights but I think that might be to low a charge.
The other thing that I found was that even the "NEW" Unique is still an awfull dirty powder and that I was getting a lot of leading in the forcing cone area. When the brush was taken to the barrel I was getting long strips of it from the bore . So the jury is still out on this particular load combo, accuracy is good but I can't beleive the ammount of cleaning it took, I think I still have some lead washing in the throats as well .
