View Full Version : Taurus 41 mag Trackers?
I was wondering of those here that own one of these little dandies how do they compare to a comparable S&W. I know that is a hard comparison because S&W does not make a 41mag as small as the trackers. But how accurate are they, how well do they hold up to heavey loads, with that how controlable are they with heavy loads and how bad is they recoil out of these light litte devils?.

336 I've got a 4 inch stainless 41 Tracker. Mine has the factory porting and the Ribber grips. Best I can say on size is its a S&W model 19 frame with a five shot cylinder. It's as accurate as any Smith I've owned. I shoot a Lee 215 grain tumble lube cast bullet at around 1000 fps. I also have a load that runs 850 fps. A 41 Special load I guess.
The insides are very much like a Smith with some minor differences. Where a K frame smith has a leaf main spring the Taurus has a helical spring.
I really like this little 41 for a pack in the woods gun. Compact and accurate without taking a bite out of the hip. Mine will shoot both cast loads into a 2.5 inch hole at 25 yards off a rest.
When I decided to go with a small frame woods carry gun I tried one of the titanium 41 Trackers. Their ten ounces lighter than the 35 oz stainless one. I've got to say it was not pleasent to shootl. Even my stainless is a handfull with full power factory loads. By the way I really like the "Ribber" grips.

My ex has the model 415 in stainless. Its the ported 2.5 inch barreled model. With 210 grain JSP factory stuff the thing comes straight back into your hand. The grips don't fit me perfectly and I get whacked pretty good across the back of my middle finger with the trigger guard but it shoots very nicely so that is the only downside I have seen to them. If she ever wanted to sell it, I would make her an offer on it.

Had the SS version and wish I had it back. I have a Ruger Blackhawk in .41 with the 4 - 5/8" barrel and the Tracker was a lot more accurate for me and the grips are the best I have found.
