Do anyone have any experience with seasoning a barrel
when shooting saboted bullets? I see TC has come out
with a seasoning made for sabots: T-17 Natural Lube.

I was always leary about using any type of seasoning
w/ sabots. Stands to reason a slick barrel would be
detrimental to shooting sabots, causing the sabot to
skid vs. engage the rifling.

You will likely get a number of opinions on this subject. I have a lot of muzzleloaders and have never believed in seasoning the bores. All the best...

My engineer friends tell me, the modern steels used to make muzzleloader barrels doesn't need seasoning like the guns of old. It's basically a market sceme to get us to buy products to season our guns. Proper shooting methods, and proper cleaning, whether with soap and water, or some after market product, is all we need to do. I've got over ten smokepoles, from flintlocks to an Encore, I never so called seasoned the barrels, they all shoot great, some superb. I mostly use soap and water to clean them, if I'm having a tough time getting out plastic from sabots, alittle Butch's Black Powder Bore Shine takes care of the problem. after cleaning, a good gun oil, I like Butch's, but thats just my choice, alot of others work fine, lightly down the bore, and lightly on the outside and it's done.If a barrel seems alittle rough, I'll give it about 20 to 30 passes with JB bore cleaner, it usually smooths it right out. Just remember to run a few dry patches down the bore, and snap a few caps. or a few pan fulls to burn out any remaining oil before you load up. Save your seasonings for that big buck you'll get. Hunt safe my friends, and remember, if you must smoke, use black powder!!!!!
