View Full Version : Friends, an intervention may be in order
I bought my first Marlin, an 1894CB in December of 05' on a whim. Followed up with a 32-20 in April. Just got my Dad's Winchester so I had to set up to load 30-30s.
Frustrated by the lack of scope mounting options on the Winchester, I finally convinced myself that the 336XLR was not as ugly as I first thought (it's actually uglier) and bought one yesterday.
Got a pad sitting next to me working up another Midway order.
HELP!
BTW, this dealer had XLRs in 450 Marlin and 45-70 for $629. I thought they were hard to come by but I don't really keep up with it.

Ken, It's probably too late so just enjoy and roll with it! I'll warn you though there is another problem that goes with it! If you get into casting bullets for them not only will you be anticipating & ordering new moulds for new bullets you might even be considering more guns for different bullets!

PS I'm sending you a PM
Ken,
I am one of the minority that thinks the XLR just doesn't look right. If figure though that the XLR is like an ugly woman. You can put up with a lot if she can cook eh? ;)

I never have been crazy about a stainless levergun. Blue steel and walnut is a levergun to me.....but, I made the mistake of picking up one of those XLR's and they shoulder nice.
I wish I could get the stainless to look like the Ruger "Target Gray" for not too much money. I'm sure I will get used to it and leave it as is though.
I sure do like the feel of it though and it seems like it is going to be accurate.

I have, lets say several, Marlin leverguns. Some have been tuned & have the triggers tweaked but my 336XLR, out of the box, has the best trigger and smoothest action of all. And it has enough weight in the right places, feels just fine and looks even better. I don't know how you guys can resist the appeal.
Now that the 35 Rem. will be available in the XLR I can feel the twinge of anticipation.

Has Marlin announced this... the 35 Rem in the XLR?

Michael,
Some time back, over on MarlinOwners, Tomray hinted that a 35 Rem XLR was going to happen. I've been watching.
Edit:
Here's a link to the dialog concerning the 35 XLR. http://www.marlinowners.com/board/viewtopic.php?p=147648&highlight=#147648
