I saw some Winchester 94's at the last gun show in Denton, Texas (7/22/06) that were priced at well over $400.00. I think I paid just under $300.00 for mine several years ago. A vendor said they were going up in value since Winchester closed down. Was he right or just looking for a sucker?

He was telling right that Winchester closed down. And yes, there is a current "knee-jerk" reaction about their value. But most of the people I've read who probably know about that sort of thing think that the price will eventually level out.

I got my 94 .44 Mag in January, just before the shutdown announcement, and it's a working gun and I'm not a collector, so I wouldn't buy one right now.

People are paying the price right now, however. ;-)

Definitely going up since the factory in Hartford closed. While you can still get a used '94 for under $500, new ones on gunbroker.com are going for $700 and upwards; over a grand for the case-colored models.

There was an article in the Wall Street Journal a few months ago about the close of the factory & the 94 becoming a collectors item - the prices have been rising ever since.

With Winchester closed in Hartford, we've lost an American icon. As for me, I hope they never make them anywhere overseas, even if that would mean the return of the '94. The Gun That Won The West shouldn't be made anywhere else but here.

It was just annouced that Browning bought the assets and rights to Winchester firearms.

USRAC will not be manufacturering them, as USRAC is out of biz.

Since J. M. Browning designed the 85, 86, 92, and 94 rifles, its not out of line for the company with his namesake to pic up where Winchester left off.

As far as 94 production, the rumor mill is working overtime. The latest/greatest news worth passing along is that the model 94 and 1300 shotgun will start up again and the model 70 has or will be moved to the South Carolina plant.

94s will be made again... just not this year.

FWIW, USRAC was purchased by FN HERSTAL Corporation in
December 1990, FN also owns Browning Arms. Same owners, different name.

Real interesting. I searched on the web (9/8), but didn't find the announcement, though I'm not surprised. If anyone has a URL for info, please post it here.

It'll be interesting to see what will happen to the prices of Winchester-made 94s once the Brownings come out. Will they go up or down? And I wonder if the new version will be the "Browning Winchester '94" or the "Browning 94" or just the 'Winchester 94' or whatever.

If any company was going to re-introduce the 94, however, you're right, Browning is it!

I've been mourning the demise of that old friend, and it's good to have even a hint of an All-American, historically valid rebirth.

Hello all.

This is the bit of news I read a while ago about this. As far as I knew last, the 94's were already being made by the branch company in Japan. I could be wrong, but that was the last news I had when I was deciding between Marlin & Winchester for a Levergun.

Well, so much for my prior enthusiams. The article at 'savewinchester.com' says they're going to make the 94s in Russia.......!

Russia. "According to sources". In 2008.

Nyet. Please.

Now, it's true that one day in the 1870s, Gen. Custer & Buffalo Bill took some Russian Grand Duke (Alexander?) Buffalo Hunting (you could look it up), and maybe they used a Winchester....but, really, guys....

Russia?

I think this answers my question about pre-closed-Hartford-94 prices. They're a-going up, Gentlemen...They're a-going up.

Russia....All those years Ivan was pointing ICBMs at us, and now he's getting the '94.....
