I have a remington 700 in 223 that sombody has done a bad bubba on the the bolt. The bolt face is blown out with the wrong extracter put in and the they peened the bolt to try to fix their mistake. I was wondering if a sako style extracter would fix this problem or if the bolt would have to be opened up to a larger size with the sako extracter. the cartridge comes out of the chamber about half-way when it falls out of the extracter. Any help would be apprecciated. Or maybe it's now a parts gun because its not worth the trip back to remington for a new bolt. Thanks.

What do you mean exactly when you say the bolt face is blown out? Could you put a pic of the bolt face showing the damage on here?

Why wouldn't it be worth a trip back to Remington to fix? They are very good about fixing their guns. They also are pretty competitive with most gunsmiths. Anyway unless the gun is total junk I'd really think about sending it back to Remington and have it fixed.

Those 700's are nice guns and all the ones I've owned have shot well. The 223 is a great varmit cartridge and works pretty good on yotes out to 300 yards or so.

As for the Sako extractors Brownells sells them and they also have the cutters to cut the bolt to fit. I'd sure want to know how the headspace and chamber and throat was on a rifle that was subjected to enough pressure to "blow out a bolt".

You know you probably don't need all that frustration, how about I drop you a check in the mail for say $25 bucks and take that mess off your hands?
