I am looking for load data for making low recoil loads for 12 and 20 ga, for trap and skeet, using Winch AA hulls. Have not been able to find any in the online stuff. Anyboby have any suggestions?

Hodgdon's annual handbook for 2006 and Lyman's Shotshell Manual, 4th Ed., both have many light loads for both gauges. Since shotshells should be loaded to their exact recipe, it is not feasible to answer your question online.

There are 3 variables that can contribute to reduced recoil. 1)shot charge, 2)velocity, 3)burning rate of the powder. Recipes addressing these variables are available on-line at the powder manufacturer sites and in reloading manuals.

7/8 oz in the 12 guage (standard in the 20) is sufficient for informal 16 yard trap, 1100 ft/sec is sufficient velocity (suggest #8 shot for trap at this velovity, for skeet smaller is fine), slow burning powder has a lower peak pressure and the longer duration of the pressure peak results in less felt recoil.

The other big variable is stock fit which, if poor, cannot be overcome with mild reloads. Autoloaders and heavy guns also have less felt recoil than pumps or doubles and lighter shotguns with the same loads.

There's no lack of data on the Alliant and IMR sites. They both recommend reducing charges by 10% for a start, so pick a load and start low. You may have a problem with autoloader functioning with light loads. I can give you a reference to a light 20 gauge load with 800-X if you need it. Works in a Beretta 301 when nothing else that light will.
